A Chick & A Chair Upholstery

A Chick & A Chair Upholstery BOOKS CURRENTLY CLOSED TO NEW PROJECTS Residential upholstery, specializing in vintage and family heirlooms Hi there! I'm Lindsay. They had a story. I was hooked.

A Chick & A Chair started when I kept bringing home wonderful vintage furniture that needed new fabric. Always creative and hands-on, I decided that upholstery was something I wanted to try on my own. I grabbed every book I could put my hands on, and scoured the internet for videos and blogs telling me how to do it. Throughout this time, I was working on the pieces at home, and posting pictures of

them to my personal page on Facebook. Eventually, friends began to notice my work, and one friend decided to take a chance on this do-it-yourselfer, and actually paid me to reupholster some chairs for her. But they weren't just any chairs - they had belonged to her grandmother, and they were special. From then on, I realized I had found my calling, and A Chick & A Chair was born in 2016. I now enjoy specializing in chairs with stories for many clients, and I hope to help you help turn your vintage treasures and beloved pieces into family heirlooms!

I come into the Henhouse.

I'm all ready to start creating the inside back of this chair I'm working on.

It needs to be sewn, so I look for the template I created before the weekend.

And I look.

And I look.

Mind you, my shop is less than 200 square feet.

I look under the fabrics rolls.

I look under the table.

I look inside the folder.

I look in my scrap drawer.

I look through the trash.

I look through the giant bags of fabric scraps for poufs.

I swear several times.

I finally resign myself to creating a new one, and pull out the template cloth.

I look up at the fabric to be sewn.

It's not every day that someone grows to love their former "time out" chair, but that's exactly what client Judy did!

This cool chair was the spot where Judy had to sit and gave a think as a child, and as an adult, she has fond memories of sitting in it! After having in her own home for some time, her cats "discovered" it, and it was time to get a makeover.

Upon tearing all the old fabric and padding off, I realized that it was a good thing Judy had brought it in to me - there was quite a bit of frame repair that needed to be done to keep going for several more decades!

Once that was handled, it was right back to building up the shape, and putting this literal picture-perfect fabric on!

I honestly can't think of a prettier seat to sit in for a time out, can you?

Testing the fit.

In the first photo, the cover is just about an inch too big. The second photo shows the cover after I seam ripped it and re-sewed it smaller.

It's a very small difference, and you likely can't see the it in the pics, but in person, it's like night and day, and is the difference between looking okay and looking well-upholstered!

Have you ever had to undo all your hard work just to redo it in the tiniest way to satisfy your own standards?
