🔨 Masonry Restoration in Progress! 🧱

Markuson Construction Inc. is wrapping up a masonry restoration project at the beautiful Cottonwood Event Center in Dunlap, Iowa 📍 (114 Iowa Ave, Dunlap, IA).

Our team replaced all of the steel lintels above the windows on the building. To complete the work properly, we carefully cut out and salvaged as much of the existing brick as possible, installed the new lintels, and then relayed the original brick back into place to maintain the building’s historic look.

We also removed and replaced additional damaged brick throughout the structure to ensure the masonry remains strong and structurally sound for years to come.

Projects like this are exactly why we love masonry restoration—bringing older buildings back to life while preserving their character. 💪

🌧️ Spring Storm Season Is Here 🌬️

As spring storms begin moving through the Midwest, strong winds, heavy rain, and freeze-thaw cycles can sometimes expose hidden problems in masonry and concrete. Moisture and shifting ground can cause mortar joints to deteriorate, bricks to loosen, chimneys to shift, or concrete surfaces to crack and settle.

If you notice crumbling mortar, loose brick, cracking concrete, or movement in retaining walls after a storm, it’s best to address the issue early before small problems turn into larger repairs.
