Built for what comes next in Crescent, Iowa.
After a tornado destroyed this longtime local business’s building two years ago, the owners began rebuilding. Markuson Construction Inc. was brought in to build a concrete block room inside the new building.
The room will serve as everyday storage and is intended to give employees a place to shelter during future storms. These photos show the masonry going up and the completed block room.
We’re glad to be part of this Crescent business’s next chapter.

Some projects mean a little more because of the history they hold.
The Historic Hitchcock House in Lewis, Iowa, was part of Iowa’s Underground Railroad. Markuson Construction Inc. is tasked with repairing deteriorated stone and tuck-pointing failing mortar joints to help preserve this remarkable building.
We’re proud to put our masonry experience to work on a place with such an important story.

Commercial Masonry & Structural Modification | Omaha, Nebraska

Making room for what’s next at Puritan Manufacturing Inc. in Omaha, Nebraska !

This project required creating a large opening for a new overhead door along with a separate opening for a new entry door in the existing masonry structure.

Before demolition began, the structure was carefully shored and supported. We then removed the existing masonry, salvaging original brick wherever possible.

For the overhead door, we installed a large structural steel beam and steel column, then rebuilt the surrounding structure with concrete block and brick. The new entry required a steel door frame and supporting beam, followed by new block and brickwork tied into the existing masonry.

The temporary shoring remains in place while the new masonry gains strength. We’ll share the completed project once the shoring comes down.

Foundation Repair – Council Bluffs, Iowa 🧱

This Council Bluffs home had approximately 15 feet of foundation wall that had settled and failed along the front of the house.

Our crew carefully shored the structure, removed the damaged foundation, and rebuilt the section with new concrete block to provide solid support for the home once again.

Foundation repairs like this aren’t about covering up the problem — they’re about getting underneath it and rebuilding it correctly.

🧱 **Historic Tuck-Pointing | Dundee–Happy Hollow Historic District – Omaha, Nebraska**

Another beautiful historic Omaha home receiving some much-needed masonry maintenance.

Our crew completed **tuck-pointing and mortar joint repairs** on this home in Omaha’s Dundee–Happy Hollow Historic District. The biggest challenge was the chimney — sitting high above the roofline and requiring some serious access to properly repair the deteriorated mortar joints. 👀

We also completed miscellaneous tuck-pointing and masonry repairs around the home, including areas near the entry stairs.

Maintaining deteriorated mortar joints is an important part of protecting older brickwork while preserving the character that makes these historic Omaha homes so unique.

There may be easier places to tuck-point than the top of that chimney... 😄🧱

Today, we pause to remember September 11, 2001.

We honor the 2,977 lives lost, the first responders who ran toward danger, the families whose lives were forever changed, and the countless Americans who answered the call to serve in the years that followed.

25 years later, we remember not only the tragedy of that day, but the courage, sacrifice, and unity that followed.

May we never forget those we lost, those who gave everything trying to save others, and the strength our country showed when we stood together as Americans.

🧱 **Historic Masonry Restoration | Country Club Neighborhood – Omaha, Nebraska**

Another historic Omaha home restored and ready for the next generation!

For this project in Omaha’s historic Country Club neighborhood, our crew carefully removed and rebuilt a failing front porch while salvaging as much of the original brick as possible. Finding matching replacement brick — especially the distinctive clinker brick — was a challenge, but preserving the character of this beautiful home was worth the extra effort.

We also shored and repaired a failing brick arch, replaced the concrete sidewalk around the porch, and completed extensive restoration of the garage.

The garage required rebuilding the shifted brick arch above the door and completely dismantling the failing side wall down to the foundation. We then rebuilt it using a combination of salvaged original brick and carefully matched replacement brick.

The result? A structurally sound restoration that looks like it belongs on the home. 🧱
