Alright, we’re back from the holiday weekend…
Let’s talk luxury vinyl plank—aka LVP!
Before I started working in the showroom, my husband installed flooring—and I was a registered nurse. I honestly couldn’t have told you the difference between the three main types of LVP we carry: WPC, SPC and glue-down. 😅
I’ve had to learn a lot since our showroom opened, and while flooring may not sound like the most exciting topic, I would love to pass some of that information along to anyone thinking about new floors now or in the future.
One of the first questions I ask when someone comes in looking for LVP is:
Is your home or cabin heated all winter? What is the lowest temperature it reaches during the year?
That matters because luxury vinyl isn’t just one type of flooring.
▪️ WPC is often a great residential choice. It generally feels warmer and a little softer underfoot, helps dampen sound and is personally one of my favorite options. It does typically cost more than SPC and needs to stay within the manufacturer’s recommended temperature range.
▪️ SPC has a denser, more rigid core and feels firmer underfoot. It is generally thinner and less expensive than WPC and can sometimes be a better fit for homes or cabins that experience greater temperature changes.
▪️ Glue-down luxury vinyl is adhered directly to the floor and is often a good option for wheelchairs or other heavy rolling loads. The flooring itself may cost less, but adhesive + any necessary subfloor preparation can affect the total installed price.
Most of our residential customers choose WPC or SPC.
There isn’t one option that is automatically best for every home. The room, subfloor, temperature, lifestyle, product requirements and budget all need to be considered.
Luxury vinyl is one of the most popular flooring choices right now because it gives homeowners a durable, easy-to-maintain surface and can flow beautifully from room to room—especially in open-concept homes.
Carpet is still a great choice when someone wants extra warmth and softness in a bedroom or living room, and tile and laminate each have their place, too. The goal is finding the right floor for the way your home is actually used.
Have a flooring question? Stop in, call, message us or leave it in the comments. If I don’t know the answer, I have a couple experienced installers who probably do. 😉
