📖 How funny to flip through this old decorating book and find so many of the exact items I have in my own home. I never considered my style to be 80's Country - I'm more of a rustic primitive farmhouse cottage girl 😄 But, I guess, having been born in 1976, and growing up in the 80's, it's not surprising there would be some nostalgic touches here and there.

What's your decor style? Do you have one in particular that you tend to stay with? Or are you like me and combine them all? 🤭

🇺🇸 Handmade with a little primitive charm and a whole lot of patriotism! 🇺🇸
I've been busy creating these grungy Americana flag picks for our upcoming Handcrafted & Upcycled Raid Train on June 3rd.
Each piece is handmade and intentionally distressed for that primitive country look we all love. The fabrics, stitching, rusty details, and "In God We Trust" flag make every piece unique.
Perfect for crocks, baskets, floral arrangements, patriotic displays, tiered trays, and summer decorating.

While in town today, I stopped at the Pharmacy and Medical Museum in Cuero, Texas. Way in the back, by the museum shop, is this massive iron lung.

Before the polio vaccine became widely available in the 1950s, thousands of children and adults were left paralyzed by the disease. When polio weakened the muscles needed for breathing, patients were placed inside an iron lung, a large negative-pressure ventilator that helped their lungs expand and contract.
The patient's body rested inside the chamber while only their head remained outside. Changes in air pressure inside the machine caused the chest to rise and fall, drawing air into and out of the lungs. For some, it was a temporary measure. For others, it became a way of life.

It's hard to imagine spending days, months, or even years inside a machine like this—but for many families, the iron lung meant hope, survival, and a second chance at life.

Medicine changes. Technology advances. But stories like these remind us never to forget the people behind the progress.

❤️ Have you ever seen an iron lung in person?

There’s something about an old bread box that just feels like home. 🏡
Vintage bread boxes aren’t only for storing loaves anymore — they make the perfect piece for displaying chunky ironstone, stacked plates, crocks, linens, or seasonal décor. The worn wood, curved sides, and primitive finish add so much warmth and character to a farmhouse kitchen.
When i bought it from Gathered on Main, I really did intend to use it for bread. But I love using this one as an open display shelf for creamy white ironstone. The contrast between the dark aged wood and the soft neutral dishes gives that cozy cottage feel without looking overly styled. Add a little nest, greenery, or old kitchen pieces and a couple of antique crocks by its side and suddenly a mundane corner feels special, collected and lived in.
Sometimes the best vintage pieces are the ones that can be repurposed in a new way while still keeping all their old charm. ✨
Do you have a bread box in your kitchen? Do you use it for bread or something else? Let's share our ideas! 💡 🤗
