I suppose I would consider this to be my first true butcher's block. Certainly was the first time I tried to cut octagons with my table saw, as evidenced by the gaps between the main pieces. I'm still quite pleased with it though. A good use of the tree that fell on my back patio during the derecho last year. End grain oak with end grain Bradford pear.

Couple firsts with this project:
- First time I've tried an inlay
- First time I've used Rubio Monocoat.

Overall I think it turned out pretty well, bloodwood inlay into a live-edge oak cookie. I tried to tint the epoxy filler as close to Oklahoma Cream as I could; think it turned out well considering this was the first time I'd tried to understand subtractive vs additive color models.

Finally able to get back to it. Have a stack of bowls ready for their 320 hand sand before oiling, and have a few bowls ...

Finally able to get back to it. Have a stack of bowls ready for their 320 hand sand before oiling, and have a few bowls awaiting their final coats before being called done. That oak bowl with the epoxy patch in the bottom: that's mine. The grain is absolutely amazing. Hopefully with a little polishing the epoxy will lose the scratch marks and go full clear.

Finally finished my last 3 gift bowls. Wasn't happy with how the finish turned out on two of them so I sanded them down ...

Finally finished my last 3 gift bowls. Wasn't happy with how the finish turned out on two of them so I sanded them down and reapplied.

Top left is 9" diameter Bradford pear
Top right is 8" diameter tulip poplar
Center bottom is 8" diameter aromatic cedar

Made a quick little bird feeder post using a limb I trimmed from a tree earlier this week.
