Lydia's Sewing Lessons

Children's Sewing Lessons include: The Basics This class will cover basic sewing vocabulary and the correct use of sewing tools for both hand and machine sewing. The focus will be on cutting fabric, elementary hand stitches and mastering setting up the sewing machine for use and sewing straight lines. Each week the student will bring home a small project. Skills covered will include reading, listening, cutting, beginning hand and machine stitching and following directions. Dreaming of Kites We will continue to practice the basics of cutting and straight sewing as we complete a pillowcase that will help take the kids off to dreamland where they will hopefully dream about the kites they will make as the second project. Edge finishing options will be learned during this session with a focus on French seams and overcasting. Hand sewing will continue with a small cross-stitch project. Skills will include learning to read/measure with a tape measure, cutting, counting and gaining consistent sewing speed. Curves Sewing curves will be introduced during this course as we practice on some small fun projects like monster hand warmers. We will then move into tackling a pair of pajama pants or shorts depending on the time of year and a t-shirt. Learned skills will include taking measurements, reading and following pattern directions. Adult beginner classes will be customized by individuals depending on their prior knowledge and ability following a similar course as stated above but with more age appropriate projects.
