Some spaces are about the furniture. Others are about the atmosphere it creates. A richly veined stone table became the center of this dining room, surrounded by warm wood, soft texture, and sculptural lighting. The restrained palette lets the stone’s natural movement do the talking.⁠

And then the final layer: flowers, silver, and objects that make the room feel collected rather than decorated.⁠

We used this library rendering to understand the furniture pieces, proportions, and relationships within the room. Once we saw everything together, the client decided she wanted the space to feel lighter, which gave us a new direction for the palette. The following images show the fabrics we’re now working with to achieve that feeling: softer and lighter, but still layered and sophisticated.⁠
⁠
We also decided to take the room in a more unexpected direction. Instead of painting the millwork, we’re wrapping the entire room—including the shelving. In the silk fabric shown as the background on the first page. It’s the first time we’ve used silk in this application, and we’re incredibly excited to see the outcome.⁠
⁠
Seeing materials in context lets us refine the mood before anything is ordered. The design process is as much about editing and evolving an idea as it is creating one.⁠

Here, the marble surround defines the space almost like a room within a room. The cutout backsplash allows the movement of the stone to become part of the composition, while the dark wood cabinetry and brass shelving bring warmth and structure.⁠

Underfoot, the darker mosaic floor creates a subtle shift from the wood flooring beyond, marking the transition without closing the bar off from the rest of the home. It gives the space its own identity while still allowing it to remain connected to the rooms around it.⁠

Transitions between spaces deserve just as much consideration as the rooms themselves.⁠

Here, the curved arch softens the passage while framing the change from warm wood flooring to veined stone. The sculptural light fixture, brass accents, and carved wood door give the hallway a distinct presence without interrupting the view beyond.⁠

I designed this living room around the way each space is revealed from one room to the next. The repeated curves soften the transitions, while the paneled cabinetry, layered ceiling detail, and herringbone floors create continuity throughout. From either perspective, the room feels connected without losing its own sense of definition.⁠

On site today as the cabinetry installation begins.⁠ The transformation is becoming tangible. ⁠
⁠

Cabinetry is going in, the ceiling beams and wood planking are bringing warmth and architecture to the space, and the custom millwork is beginning to take shape. This is the phase where months of planning start to reveal themselves, not through finishes alone, but through proportion, craftsmanship, and thoughtful detailing. ⁠

Every project has a moment when it stops feeling like a construction site and starts feeling like a home. This is one of those moments.
