General Duff Green (1791–1875) was a prominent journalist, politician, and industrial promoter who played a significant role in the development of Dalton, Georgia, in the mid-19th century. He fought in the War of 1812 and later became a close advisor to President Andrew Jackson as part of his informal "Kitchen Cabinet," influencing national politics and policy. Attracted to Dalton by the expansion of railroads, Green invested in the town’s infrastructure and economy, helping fund projects and donating land, including property that became West Hill Cemetery. During the Civil War, he supported the Confederate cause through industrial efforts, including ironworks and the Dalton Arms Company, which supplied materials for the war. Green died in Dalton and was buried in West Hill Cemetery, leaving a lasting legacy as both a national figure and a local pioneer in Northwest Georgia.
