Interior design pricing is all over the map—and honestly, it can be confusing for clients and designers.

Hourly fees. Flat fees. Cost-plus. Procurement markups. Percentage of project cost. Retainers. Sometimes… all of the above.

But could our industry ever create a more standardized way of charging for professional design services? Maybe at least regionally.

I’m curious what other designers think:

Would more standardized pricing help our industry—or would it limit the way we run our businesses?
If only clients hired us for our talent and for the relationship.
