Little Girl Gouache Spring Fed.
This is the color of my soul, where I rejuvenate, where my spirit was born.

When I was a little girl, I found my mother's list of Items each of us were getting for Christmas that year. Written in her beautiful scripted handwriting on either brown construction paper or yellow lined paper. I found it in the right drawer of the hutch. Brother was listed on one side. Sister and I listed on the other. My list had the Crayola caddy, a box of 72 crayons with built in sharpener, and "C paper." I had no idea what C paper was but in my imagination it was glorious special magic paper. It's all I could think about on the long ride from Central Florida to Alabama for Christmas. This is the feeling of what I imagined C paper was. For two wonderful weeks, I lived here creating imaginary magical drawings. That magical feeling never left, and feel it as I create some 40 odd years later.

Another in the Little Girl Gouache Series. I've decided that this series will focus on all the beautiful places my little self imagined.

Many of my family members say I paint like my maternal great grandmother. I have seen just a few of her paintings. This painting made me realize that while I did not know her, she is with me. She painted in oil. Gouche is the love child of oil and watercolor. So, Yes, I'll take it as a compliment.

I warned you I was on a gouache kick. Forgot to record this one.

I'm on a gouache kick..
Really struggled with getting the water reflections like I wanted them. That's different than the reflections just being fine.

Four Week Intermediate WaterColor Class, at That Art Place Daphne, complete! These ladies were brave and painted difficult things beautifully. We learned shading, values and composition each week. The final class put everything together. I'm so proud of these ladies, but more so of their joy to learn how to create.
Jerri Ledford knew what she was doing when she asked me to teach this class. I had to master the skills to be taught. I had to practice what I was teaching. In the process, I also developed more refined skills.

A quick painting using Gouache. I paint upright as a postural correction instead of hunched over a flat table. Yes, I get quite a few runs, but its worth it to my back and neck. Plus, it helps me remain lose with my painting.

Painted a Fred. This one took many many layers to get the depth needed for this guy. Photo Credit to Chris J Hinton.
