A few more RED Friday shirts are heading out this week. Don’t know about RED Friday? It started years ago as a way to visually show your support for our troops, especially those in harms way.

‘I wear RED for everyone to see I stand for those who keep us free!’

RED stands for Remember Everyone Deployed. You don’t have to have a specific RED Friday shirt to wear, just wear something RED on Fridays to show your support. If you’d like to have a specific shirt, I have a number of designs, stop in to see me!

I’ve added a few things to my free to take items. We’ve covered the semicolons and 988 key fobs. With 9/11, POW/MIA Recognition day and before we know it, Veterans Day coming up, there is American Flag pins and poppies* also available.

If you’d like to make a donation, money for the semicolons goes back to purchase supplies to keep those going. The flags and poppy donations will go to a relief fund to help veterans in need.

*red poppies were adopted by both the American Legion and VFW as their official memorial flower in the 1920’s and have continued the tradition for over 100 years of handing out poppies for donations with the money going to support veterans in need. While the red is specific to WWI, they have been the most common color seen.
White poppies are the poppy that represents all veterans of all generations. The purple poppy represents all military animals, including horses, dogs, and pigeons.

September is su***de prevention month. In the next week will be the first anniversary of losing a fellow veteran and friend to su***de. We never truly know what may be going on with someone, but sometimes we can be put in a place to provide a simple reminder to someone that they matter. That’s why I have the semicolons available for anyone who wants them.

Over the years, I’ve said goodbye to far too many who we lost too soon, but I didn’t expect it to touch my kids as young as they are (13 & 14) until a fellow military kid my son went to school with took her own life last spring. As a parent, I simply cannot imagine…

It’s never going to be an easy conversation, whether with your kids, a friend, or just someone you randomly encounter, but taking a few minutes and asking if they’re okay can possibly open a door that could save a life.

If you’re struggling or know someone that is, please make sure they know about resources like the national su***de hotline 988. You can call or text that number 24/7 to talk to someone.
