OMG... the gingerbread house.

I can't help it. Every time I see this place, my mind goes straight to Hansel and Gretel.

The old story had an edible house in the woods, a winding trail, and a little adventure waiting at the end.

Years later, the story has changed.

The forest is still out there.
The trail is still there.
The adventure is still there.

But these days, grown-ups tend to find their own path, and sooner or later, all roads heading east seem to end at the same place...

Where the land meets the water and the adventure begins.

If you know, you know.

Somewhere along the way, the gingerbread house evolved.

Maybe that's where the story was headed all along.

I probably don't say it often enough, but thank you.

Thank you for watching. Thank you for following. Thank you for liking, sharing, commenting, and supporting what we're doing here at Only By Nature.

Whether you've been around since the beginning or just recently found the page, I genuinely appreciate every person who takes a few moments out of their day to stop by, see what we're up to, and spend a little time with us.

The internet is a busy place, and time is the one thing nobody gets back. The fact that anyone chooses to spend a piece of theirs here is something I don't take for granted.

So before I get back to posting the usual mix of Northern Michigan, Eastern Upper Peninsula life, and everything else that makes this corner of the world what it is...

Not quite my cup of tea.

If I'm reaching for something dark and chocolatey, my mind usually drifts toward the Midnight Bar series.

Creamy milk chocolate always had its place, though. Pair that with a warm glass of milk at the end of a long day and some folks would call that a pretty good way to wind things down.

Just one more example of how different people gravitate toward different flavors, textures, and traditions.

Summer hours start tomorrow and the season’s about to start sizzling across the Eastern Upper Peninsula.

More daylight. More traffic flowing north across the Mackinac Bridge. More movement through DeTour Village as another UP summer starts coming alive.

Starting tomorrow:

Monday–Thursday: 10AM–8PM
Friday–Saturday: 10AM–9PM
Sunday: 12PM–8PM

Longer evenings. More road trips. More time to slow down and enjoy the edge of Michigan where the water, the woods, and the road all come together.

Been getting calls all morning asking if I'm open.

Yeah, I am.

And you know why? Because of the people who never made the trip home. Because of the men and women who gave everything, we're able to wake up every day and choose how we live, where we go, what we build, and what we do with our time.

That's real freedom.

We're still speaking freely. We're still making our own choices. We're still gathering with family and friends. We're still able to celebrate, laugh, work, and live life on our own terms.

Don't ever forget where that came from.

Enjoy the day. Be happy. Be with your people. Just remember — the freedom to do all of it came from someone else's sacrifice.

If you're from Cedarville, you might know these guys.

Eastern Upper Peninsula is waking back up. Bears coming out of hibernation, roads opening, water moving, and everybody out looking for a little honey, one kind or another.

Funny thing about bears... they always seem to know where the good stuff is.

Cannalicious Goodnight Honey fits right into that rhythm out here. Slow mornings, long runs, and knowing when it's time to start settling things back down.

Some hollows are worth remembering.
