Winter is coming.

It always is in Michigan's Upper Peninsula—just not yet.

But here's a little preview of some snow caps. Those early-season frostings are always a welcome sight, and these frosted buds look like they've already gotten a head start.

Snow caps. Snowballs. Flower underneath and infusion doing what infusion does when it finds the right companion.

One hell of an infusion, if you ask us.

Around Only By Nature in DeTour Village, at the far eastern edge of Michigan's Upper Peninsula, we're used to watching the seasons change. Lake Huron, the St. Marys River and this corner of the Eastern UP will be wearing the real white stuff soon enough.

Where the land ends and the adventure begins.

Every once in a while, something comes along that just seems like it was made for this corner of the world.

A windless piece.

Think about where we are. DeTour Village sits about as far east as you can go in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, surrounded by the waters of Lake Huron and the St. Marys River, with Drummond Island waiting across the passage.

Around here, the wind isn't some occasional inconvenience. It's part of the landscape. On the shoreline, out on the water, around the marina, on the boat or wherever the day's adventure happens to take you—the breeze has a mind of its own.

Then somebody comes up with this little contraption.

Take it apart. Put it together. It's simple, compact, and built around one basic idea: shielding the bowl and flame from the wind instead of standing there fighting Mother Nature every time she decides to blow.

Nothing overly complicated about it. Just an old problem approached from a different angle.

And around a place where the land ends, the water begins and the wind pretty much does whatever the hell it wants...

A windless piece makes a whole lot of sense.
