My family name BENOIT is derived from the Latin word "Benedictus" which signifies "blessed."

The shield background is blue, which signifies loyalty, truth and splendor. The chevron, fleur-de-lis, martlet, mullet and label are in gold, which signifies generosity, bravery and perseverance.

The fleur-de-lis represents France, Nova Scotia, Louisiana and Martin Benoit, the progenitor of most Benoits that are in Louisiana today.

The chevron signifies protection, builder or others who have accomplished some work of faithful service.

The label represents the first born son, Pierre the elder, who has descendants in Louisiana today.

The mullet (five point star) represents the third son, Jean, who has descendants in Louisiana today.

The martlet (footless swallow) represents the fourth son, Pierre the younger, who has descendants in Louisiana today.
