What a wonderful evening at Workshop & Gallery at 216.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for Amy Real's artist reception. The gallery was filled with friends, neighbors, collectors, conversation, and a genuine appreciation for Amy and her work.

Many of Amy's pieces found new homes, making the evening a tremendous success. But what I enjoyed most was seeing people spend time together, talking with Amy, learning about her process, looking closely at the work, and simply enjoying being here.

This is exactly what I hoped these exhibitions would become: artists, art, and community coming together in a small gallery on Little Deer Isle.

A special thank you to our collectors for supporting Amy's work and to everyone who continues to support Workshop & Gallery at 216. It means a great deal.

And congratulations, Amy, on a wonderful show.

Art, community, and giving back.

I'm very pleased to share that Amy Real has generously chosen to donate her proceeds from artwork sold during her exhibition at Workshop & Gallery at 216 to local island charities.

Please join us for an Artist Reception with Amy Real on Saturday, August 22, from 4–6 PM.

Amy's work is fascinating, but so is the process behind it. Using botanical materials, textiles, printing, stitching, and other techniques, she creates richly layered pieces inspired by the natural world. The reception will be a wonderful opportunity to meet Amy, see the work in person, and learn more about how she creates it.

Come enjoy some art, conversation, light fare and drinks—and help us celebrate an artist who has chosen to give back to the island community.

Join us for one final evening with Patrick Monaghan and his oil paintings at Workshop & Gallery at 216.

Closing Reception
Friday, August 14, 4:00–6:00 PM

Patrick will be here for the evening, so this is a wonderful opportunity to meet the artist, spend some time with the paintings, and hear a little about the places and experiences behind his work.

Patrick’s exhibition has been a special one for the gallery, and I hope you’ll join us as we bring it to a close. His paintings will officially remain on display through Monday.

And, as one exhibition comes to an end, another begins. We’ll also have a small preview of work by Stonington artist Amy Real, whose botanical and mixed-media exhibition will be featured next at the gallery.

Come by, have a drink, enjoy the art, and spend a little time with us.

A beautiful painting deserves thoughtful presentation.

I recently had the pleasure of framing this coastal landscape by local artist Sally Littlefield for one of my customers.

One of the most rewarding parts of custom framing is choosing a presentation that supports the artwork without competing with it. For this piece, a simple black frame was selected to complement Sally's vibrant sunset and keep the focus on the painting itself.

Finished today.

This beautiful signed print by Deer Isle artist Holly Mead came into the shop for custom preservation framing.

For this project, I built a custom frame from a solid poplar board, allowing the frame to complement the artwork without competing for attention.

Because the artwork was framed without a mat, I used hidden spacers to create an air gap between the museum glass and the print. Keeping the glazing from touching the artwork is an important part of preservation framing and helps protect the piece for years to come.

The customer also chose Museum Glass®, which offers 99% UV protection while virtually eliminating reflections, allowing the artwork to be enjoyed with exceptional clarity.

One of the things I enjoy most about custom framing is finding a presentation that complements the artwork without competing with it.

This beautiful oil on birch panel by Patrick Monaghan was framed using a float mount, allowing the natural edges of the panel to remain visible while giving the painting room to breathe.

Although most oil paintings are displayed without glass, this piece was mounted using archival preservation materials and protected with Museum Glass®. The result is a presentation that preserves the artwork while maintaining exceptional clarity and minimizing reflections.

If you’ve ever wondered why one frame seems to elevate a piece of art while another simply surrounds it, the answer is usually found in the details.

This week I had the pleasure of framing a beautiful print by Maine artist Francis Hamabe.

Choosing a frame isn’t just about matching colors. It’s about protection and finding a presentation that supports the artwork without competing with it. For this piece, a simple black frame keeps the focus exactly where it belongs, on Hamabe’s wonderful illustration.
