Today felt like the perfect day to bring two things I have always loved into one frame.
Ganesha is draped in Ikat handloom in the painting, while I’m wearing a Bengal Tant saree. And why not?
It’s National Handloom Day. ❤️
Handloom has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. Growing up, it wasn’t just something we wore; it was something we appreciated, collected, and celebrated.
Over the years, that love quietly found its way into my paintings. Whether it’s the geometric beauty of Ikat or the rich sheen of Mashru, I find immense joy in translating these beautiful textiles into brushstrokes. I’m so glad I found a way to paint these timeless weaves onto canvas.
This little series is my tribute to the incredible craftsmanship of our weavers and to India’s rich handloom heritage. I hope, in some small way, my paintings encourage more people to notice and celebrate the beauty of the textiles we have all around us.
Happy National Handloom Day !
May we continue to wear it, cherish it, and celebrate it; not just in our wardrobes, but in every form of art we create.
