Toner Transfer Process Part III.

After gel medium is dry (either wait 12 hours or use a heat-gun), wet a paper towel and start rubbing away paper.

As the water dries, you'll see cloudy areas. Use your hand to feel for rough areas. Repeat until clear.

Any flaws are stippled away with a Sharpie.

Toner Transfer Process Part II.

Once them image is aligned, I place gessoed panel in window.

Apply thin but consistent layer of Golden's Fluid Matte Medium to both panel and image. My image is on 80lb paper to avoid wrinkling. Wrinkles are the enemy.

I also tape the acrylic base for easier clean-up and to ensure it remains transparent.

Press image to panel and gently burnish with hand or rubber brayer or roller, moving diagonally from the center out.

I then start peeling paper, but only if it comes off easily, as the medium needs time to dry. Whittling down the 80lb paper gives me a head start on the next step. Feel free to skip this.

Let dry at least 5 hrs (less if your paper is thin), or, use a heat-gun.

Toner Transfer Process Part I.

Going along with my recent Adjuncts as Hobos piece, I thought I'd repost my Toner Transfer process.

I had a window laser cut into a piece of acrylic, and hinged it to another piece with duct tape so I can easily align the image and panel and press them together.

The laser print is on 80lb paper, has crop marks that I use to align to the window, and a bleed in case I'm off (tho I try not to be). The bleed also solves the white seams inevitable with tiling toner transfers. So I print on individual panels with a bleed so they line up without interruption.
