Celebrating 20 years of Denver’s Ellie Caulkins Opera House! In 2005, Semple Brown transformed the historic 1908 Municipal Auditorium into a 2,268-seat world-class venue—an endeavor aptly called “building a ship in a bottle.” We preserved the building’s story through exposed sandstone foundations and structural columns while navigating historic preservation, acoustic excellence, and budget constraints to create a cultural landmark.

The Ellie Caulkins Opera House has been home to and .ballet, while hosting film screenings, Broadway musicals, and concerts—filling a vital gap in Denver’s performing arts landscape. Cheers to 20 years of inspiring audiences and enriching our community!
