May recap: we blinked and it was over. ⚡️
One month. Countless rooms. Hours loading and unloading. GALLONS of Diet Coke consumed. 🥤
From consultation to staging to destaging, from Des Moines to Guthrie Center (!) and back again, May kept us on our toes—and we wouldn’t have it any other way.
Here’s a quick look at some of the homes we transformed this month. Every space was different, but the goal was always the same: helping buyers see themselves at home.

Maybe this is a controversial take, but I believe everyone deserves a home. And so does the Story County Housing Trust - a non-profit program to support opportunities to provide safe and affordable housing in Story County.

Hive was honored to work with them to stage this brand new 3 bedroom, 2 bath home in McCallsburg, now live!

Hello friends! 👋🏼

It feels like it’s been a really, really long time since I’ve posted, so I thought…why not show you guys what I’ve been up to and well, this is it! The spring market has SPRUNG, so most of our time has been spent packing, loading, driving, staging, destaging, rinse, repeat. The best places to catch me “in the wild” these days are local furnishings and decor stores as we desperately try to keep our inventory up with more and more houses out. Oh, and did I mention that our warehouse had a sprinkler leak?! 💦 😭 🤬

So anyway I wanted to say we’re still here. Busy and grateful and working. I SWEAR I have much cooler things to show you than just my face. It’s coming. Stay tuned. ♥️

Real talk: do you chat?! I have LOTS (and lots) of concerns about AI, but there is no doubt that it can be beneficial in helping homeowners visualize recommended changes - ESPECIALLY when it comes to paint colors! It was hard to see this property beyond the green and orange color scheme, but a simple prompt to use our custom color scheme, add an important design element and a little bit of landscaping takes this diamond in the rough before to a charming cozy cottage after! I can’t wait to watch this transformation come to life!

Paint colors can easily be the biggest bang for your buck - but mistakes can be costly. Try these easy tips to make sure your choice is the right choice, the first time….

1. Make sure you are choosing paint colors by looking at them on THE PLANE IN WHICH IT WILL EXIST. you can determine a wall color by placing it on the counter or table and looking at it directly under the light - get it up on the wall!

2. You need a big sample! The tiny swatches you take home from a store can help you narrow down your choices, but a final determination needs a larger area. Buy the sample pot!

3. Select a neutral backdrop. We want to see that new color on the wall, but our eyes are trained to see differences, so your existing wall color WILL impact how you see the new color. If your walls aren’t already white, put that new (large) sample on a piece of white poster board to truly see the new color.

4. Give it time. Lighting conditions will affect every color, so to be the most confident in your color you want to see it at different times of day in different lighting conditions. Do you like it in the morning? Under your artifical lights? When it’s raining? Only then you can be sure it’s the right color for your room!

And finally…

5. Don’t forget that sheen matters! The more sheen your paint has, the more light it will reflect. If you selecting from a matte finish sample but choosing a semi-gloss paint, expect to look lighter than the original sample.
