My coffee mug cabinet is filled to the brim. I know I'm not the only millennial who likes collecting coffee mugs. Most of them have a specific memory tied to them or represent a special place or season in our life.
But this past Saturday, one of our favorite mugs - one my husband and I got on a trip to Hawaii - broke. It met its match when it stood between our dog and some snacks left out by the kids π
My initial reaction was that I was a little sad. That was one of my most frequently used mugs, because of the happy memories it reminded me of. My second reaction was: at least we have a little more breathing room in our cabinet, and now we have a reason to go back to Hawaii π€·ββοΈ
But I put it out of my mind. At least, until three days later...
But first let's rewind to about a month ago. I was listening to the WBGL Morning Show (on my favorite radio station WBGL) when they asked a trivia question. I never do this, but I was certain I knew the answer, so I quickly texted in. Surprise - I won! They said they would send me a prize. Sweet! (You might know where this story is going.)
Back to Tuesday of this week, and I happened to be looking out my front window when the mail truck showed up. I noticed the mailman put a package in my mailbox. "I don't think I ordered anything... maaaybe that's my WBGL prize?" (I'd like to say that I had forgotten all about it, but truthfully I was pretty excited!)
I got the box out of the mailbox and thought that it looked just the right size for a coffee mug. I thought, "How funny would that be... God does have a sense of humor, so I wouldn't be surprised!"
I opened it up and just started laughing. My heart swelled with warmth. It was the kind of moment when you feel so seen, known, and loved by the Creator of the Universe, and absolutely grateful for that miraculous fact.
Not only did the package have a brand new coffee mug just for me, but a ton of other goodies too. My cup was literally overflowing. And my heart was so full.
So a month ago when the trivia question was asked, God knew. On Saturday when one of my favorite mugs broke, God knew. As the radio station packaged up and sent me the box, God knew. As the mailman delivered the box three days after the Hawaii mug incident, God knew. And I just know that He couldn't wait for me to open it.
Because while I am genuinely happy about my new coffee mug, the best part has nothing to do with coffee mugs. It has to do with the fact that God wants to have a relationship with us. He wants to fill our cups to overflowing. He wants to restore us. He wants us to feel loved by Him. He wants to give us hope that if we accept His free gift of salvation we can enjoy His love for eternity in Heaven, because in three days he defeated death when he raised Jesus from the grave. And for that I am the MOST grateful π
And now my cabinet is full again. Thank you God!
