Patrick Thompson Design All Design begins with an Idea. Patrick Thompson Design is a Detroit-based studio specializing in hospitality, commercial and retail spaces.

We focus on creating highly customized interiors, and we work closely with designers, craftsmen and fabricators who value design and the process. PTD brings a holistic approach to each project. Our firm provides architecture, interior design, graphic design, product design and brand management services. Since its inception in 2009, PTD has designed spaces for museums, hotels, restaurants, offices,

retail establishments and residences for our clients. Our work ranges from creating custom furniture, lighting and branding, to large-scale hospitality projects. Thompson brings over 10 years of experience and a team of designers, architects, craftspeople and fabricators that bring authenticity, creativity, collaboration, innovation to each project. Our spaces are unique to the client, meet their needs and reflect our love of design. We have won five Detroit Design awards and have been featured in Dwell magazine, Metropolis magazine and Hour Detroit.

The Plaza, one of Detroit’s historic buildings locally known as the Hammer & Nail building, is getting a refresh.

The 12-story mid-century modern landmark is being transformed by The Roxbury Group into an Apartments by Marriott Bonvoy. PTD’s design celebrates the building’s architectural roots through iconic MillerKnoll furnishings, period-inspired details, and a warm, layered material palette bringing new life to this downtown Detroit icon while honoring its mid-century character.

Led by Molly Redigan, Lead Designer/Architect, this tenant amenity space on the 13th floor of Minoru Yamasaki’s iconic 1 Woodward building uses warm woods, richly colored upholstery, and architectural details paying homage to the building’s architecture to make the space feel less like an office and more like a private club. It’s comfortable enough for a morning coffee, polished enough for a client meeting, and flexible enough to become whatever tenants need throughout the day. It’s hospitality, elevated.

PTD was honored with 10 awards at the 23rd Annual Detroit Design Awards last week, including recognition in the Commercial category for our hospitality and historic renovation projects. Award-winning work included Lobby for AC Hotel Detroit at the Bonstelle, Restaurant/Bar for Bar Charles at the Colony Club, and Historic Renovation/Restoration for The Drawing Room at the Colony Club.
