The Things We Remember: Sisterhood
Artist Robin Wilson

Mixed-media textile collage
5 × 7 inches

Created from found textiles, a found vintage sepia photograph, thread, and a vintage beaded floral appliqué, The Things We Remember: Sisterhood reflects on the enduring bonds formed in girlhood. The layered materials suggest that memory is not always singular—it is pieced together through touch, objects, photographs, and the stories we continue to carry.

Who do you hold close in your memories? What moments of girlhood, family, or friendship continue to shape who you are? Share your stories in the comments.

The Things We Carry
Artist Robin Wilson

Every piece of cloth holds a story.

This 5 × 7 inch mixed-media textile collage created with silk taffeta, cotton fabrics, thread, a found sepia photograph, and a vintage beaded appliqué. The work explores the ways memory is woven into the objects that accompany us through life. One of the floral cotton fabrics was cut from a personal clothing item, allowing the artwork to embody lived experience in a literal sense. The materials do not simply represent memory—they have lived it.

The composition reflects the things carried from one generation to the next: family stories, traditions, joy, grief, resilience, and love. Like the intersecting strips of fabric, our lives are shaped by the people, places, and moments that converge and become part of who we are.

This work is part of an ongoing exploration of textiles as living archives, where each fragment has already lived a life before entering the composition. Through their assembly, these histories are brought into conversation with one another.

What stories do you hold or carry? Please share in the comments below.

The Things We Remember
Artist Robin Wilson
5 x 7 in.
Silk taffeta, cotton fabric, thread, faux pearl button, and found sepia photograph

Memory is rarely linear. Sometimes it arrives in vivid detail. Other times, it comes to us in fragments— through a photograph, a piece of fabric, a familiar pattern, or the feel of a button once sewn onto a loved one's garment.

The Things We Remember is a mixed-media textile collage that explores the ways memory is preserved, reconstructed, and carried forward. The intentionally frayed edges speak to the imperfect nature of remembering. They acknowledge that while some stories remain beautifully intact, others are pieced together over time through inherited objects, family histories, and the traces left behind.
