Today, there were golden boxes filled with tea cups, saucers, and purple cookies from Detroit's JP Makes and Bakes JP Makes and Bakes.

The occasion: a newlywed couple chose our space to host their post-wedding high tea. Even with the rain, it was a beautiful day. It was a joy to host the couple, their family, and friends. The tea cup, saucer, and purple cookies were an added bonus. Cheers to the newlyweds!

Petals and Portraits: Exhibition Opening

Join us for the special opening of Petals and Portraits, a family-centered exhibition at Vesey Lane Goods.

We are grateful to everyone who shared family photographs and portraits for inclusion in this special exhibition. Each photograph offers a glimpse into a family, a relationship, a moment in time—and together, these images become part of a much larger story.

Petals and Portraits celebrates not only our individual family memories, but our collective community memory. Through these portraits, we are invited to reflect on the people, places, relationships, traditions, and experiences that shape who we are and, collectively, shape the story of our communities here in Detroit.

Like petals gathered into a bunch, each family story is distinct, yet beautifully connected to something greater.

We invite everyone who contributed a portrait, as well as friends, family, neighbors, and community members, to join us on Sunday, September 20 from 2:00–5:30 PM for a special viewing and opening celebration.

Thank you for trusting us with your family memories and for helping us tell a broader story of family, memory, legacy, and community.

Petals and Portraits will remain on exhibition through February 18, 2027 at Vesey Lane Goods.
