Hello Hugh fans - I have an update. As of tomorrow, the Hugh Instagram will become the account for my new endeavor: Mezzanine. Which is actually my old endeavor, since it was the name of my store for first half of my career.

Mezzanine is an online shop selling exquisite vintage finds in the familiar areas of barware, smoking accessories and other treasures. A bit more specialized, a bit more elevated.

I hope you will follow along on this new undertaking!

Hey hey, it’s been a while! I am back in Detroit for a bit and once again I am having a vintage pop up! It’s in West Village over the next two weekends. I really dug deep in the archives for this one!

There will be: some mcm furniture, lots of studio pottery, home decor, rugs, lighting, posters and art, pop culture and design magazines, art and architecture books, and other miscellanea I would file under “the odd and unusual”.

There will also be some new merchandise left over from Hugh (iittala, Alessi, etcetera) and even some dead stock from my first shop, Mezzanine (think late 90s/early 00s design).

So please come by, tell your friends, and say hello at what will most likely be my Detroit retail last hurrah!

How it started / how it ended: that’s a wrap on Hugh, kids! From humble beginnings on upper Park Avenue as regions’s first pop-up shop in 2009, to our less temporary ten-year run on Cass in Midtown, to the (frankly) less exciting world on selling only online, it’s been a wonderful run. The website is now dormant and it’s time for me to move on to other things.

I’m moving to Palm Springs, CA, so if you need me I’ll be selling vintage modern wares in the desert. Hugh may re-emerge with some changes in the future, but it’s too soon to say. Thanks for 15 years of good design, good entertaining and good gifting. I’m so grateful for the support you’ve shown over the years. I hope you’ll remember our Detroit adventure fondly!

It’s the last day of our sale! Our last featured item is another classic Danish design - the Cylinda-Line Ice Tongs. It is of the Cylinda-Line series from 1967, a collection of stainless steel tabletop items all based a minimal cylinder shape. They have become icons of modern design.

The tongs are a great addition to your bar, work just as well for serving food, and make a great gift. And they are one sale on thankhugh.com!

Designed in 1978, the Condiment Set was part of the first series of tabletop objects Ettore Sottsass designed for Alessi. It lets you carry condiments in a single motion, it is robust to the point of being virtually indestructible and it is easy to clean.

Made of lead-free crystal glass and polished stainless steel, it is modern and elegant. It’s a great addition to your everyday life, but it also makes a great present. We have one left, stock up for wedding season! It’s very marked down in our Inventory Clear-Out Sale on thankhugh.com.

This elegant glassware was designed in 1979 by Massimo and Lella Vignelli as part of a comprehensive tabletop program for Ciga Hotels in Italy.

As the story goes, Massimo was due to meet with the hotel ownership but had not yet found a satisfactory design. As he sat in his hotel room and looked out over the city he was inspired by the domes of the cathedrals and a classic design was born.

One pair of the Old Fashioned glasses still available, and a few sets (4 glasses) of the Tumbler. All half off in our Inventory Clear-Out Sale on thankhugh.com!

The mouth-blown Chemex Coffeemaker is the version created as it was originally designed - mouth-blown heat-resistant glass, the wooden collar, the leather tie. The angles that go straight down instead of rounding at the bottom. The slightly heavier weight in the hand. The one that’s in MoMA’s permanent collection.

It’s a step up from the machine-made Chemex Classic you usually see at stores. And we have one open-box mouth-blown version left, seriously discounted during the Inventory Clear-out Sale. Check it out at thankhugh.com!
