What happened to creating distinctive exteriors in the restaurant space!? What happened to the fun!? If you ask me, all of the latest prototypes for the big brands could be interchanged. Take off the signage at a Wendy's and it looks like a Burger King. We need to get back to creating destinations. Especially in the current consumer climate. In order to draw people back into the dining room, we need to create special moments at every visual focal point, including from the street.

I show this (very preliminary) design for Olga's Kitchen to illustrate that even a low-budget refresh can push a brand forward. The goal was to create a Mediterranean café. We landed on a great material palette, updated seating, flooring, and lighting. All within budget. Looking forward to seeing this completed in the near future!!

As a branding pro, I know how hard it is to narrow your brand down to a single icon. The simpler the solution, the more you can use secondary elements to showcase the variety of personalities that you feel your brand might have. Too simple and you won't differentiate from your competitors, or convey a memorable message. I hope you like my new logo. I'm excited to see how this will evolve in the wild!

Fun project in Holly, MI. The site has everything from fuel to groceries, to a full-size bowling alley! Another great collaboration with Studio|H2G. They did the interior design. Since this is a two-story space, we were able to showcase the brand in a very unusual way... the top of a drop ceiling. So don't forget to look down the next time your Bowling at Alex's Market and Grill.
