It’s finally time to dig up my ranunculus corms. Ranunculus are gorgeous, but they can be a pain. You have to wait until they die back to dig them, but in zone 7 you can’t overwinter them in the ground, so dig you must! Here’s how I dig them, clean them and get them ready to store for winter.

Today I worked in the big garden, mostly trying to get after these w**ds! I’m experimenting this year, so after getting my amaranth cleaned up, I mulched them with shredded paper. Theoretically it should work well as a w**d barrier, plus it’s good for the soil and I’m recycling. Best part?! It’s free. I just laid it around my plants, about 2 inches deep, avoiding the stems. Once I had that finished, I put up 4 T-posts so I could net them. Amaranth can get really tall, so it needs support. As they get taller, I will add more layers of netting (I’m using 6”x6”). Side note - I lay netting a lot of times when I’m planting too. Makes an easy grid to follow! Amaranth can be used fresh or dried, so I’m excited to see how this goes. So far it’s been super easy. 🤞🏻
