My following has grown exponentially over the last few weeks so I thought I’d take a minute to reintroduce myself and why I started journey and why I do what I do.
My name is Cliff and I am married and have 3 kids. I work full in Continuous Improvement and Lean Engineering specializing in PFEP. I am currently almost done at Ferris State for my Bachelors in Business Administration and a minor in Lean Manufacturing and plan to continue for an MBA with specialities in Lean. I live in Dorr and I love it. I love this country, the flag, and am huge supporter of law enforcement, veterans, and all first responders. Mental health awareness is huge for me as it has affected my family greatly.
THE STORY OF PALS
A few months ago I kept seeing these wooden flags that were burned, and talking to my buddy who is way way better at wood working than myself I told him I think I can make that. I want for my house. PS I don’t have for my house yet.
My first one was alright, but my second one was good. I looked at it and said this belongs to the veterans and I donated to my American legion. It’s still there. From there people asked me to make them and will I sell them and this and that, and I always said no. I was never in it for money. I am still not. I love the smile of veterans faces or people who receive them.
After a while and all the questions I asked, I started to think how can I do both? How can make stuff and not bring in money and make this about things I care about. I started making flags for veterans. I also started doing them for events and raffles. A lot of them doing with veterans mental health and everyday mental health needs. With the help of someone very special someone who now has become like a second mom Molly Barto I began to share my family’s story of mental health and how losing my cousin Lee affected us. Molly’s son Kasey was great a guy I worked with for years. At GFS we loaded trucks right next to each other, it’s kind of like being in a jail cell you become bunk mates. Right before Lee we lost Kasey to this disease as well, because the world is a funny place it brought Molly and I together and she helped give me a voice. Mine is through the woodworking. This is how I get my message across. I have done police dog flags, David Warsen flag, fire departments flags, flags for veterans, I’ve worked with 92 for 22, Blue Star Mothers, and so much more and it has brought me to meet some of the best people in world.
DO I SELL THINGS?
Yes, I do, but it’s only to continue to my donations. As you could imagine after a while you can only give so much without bringing in something. I wish I could give to everyone, because I would. I do the flags and crosses and bottle openers. I also do circular plaques and other small things. Everything goes backs in so I can keep spreading the word of what I do. I also have shirts.
If you have any questions feel free to reach out. To all those who have followed me this whole time thank you! To those just starting welcome and hopefully we can break this stigma.
