This is the Geauga Park District's Observatory Park, located in Montville Township in one of the few areas left in Ohio not affected by light pollution. The 1,110-acre park features a planetarium and an observatory and a mile-long planetary trail that shows the scale of the solar system and provides interesting info about each of the planets. It also features life-sized corner stones of the Great Pyramid of Giza to give you some idea of the size of the structure...I've outlined the footprint on this photo in yellow. The Woods on French Creek is a 54,000 SF skilled nursing facility currently under construction in Avon, OH. TCV Development and Thad Vasco, the developer, has furnished us with the photos shown depicting various stages of the construction progress to date.

Architect Brian Bauer of MKC Associates, Inc. designed a warm and inviting residential environment for rehabilitation and skilled nursing patients at The Woods. A specialist in healthcare design, Bauer assembled his team of engineers and designers with his usual eye for quality, energy efficiency and effective use of space.

Horn Engineering is privileged to work with TCV Development and MKC Associates on thoughtfully-designed electrical and technology systems, enabling the professionals in this center to deliver the compassionate care notable in Provider Services facilities.

The Alliance YMCA has completed a major renovation to its facility, including interior revisions to its fitness and child care areas to serve the growing demand. Major interior renovations updated and expanded the locker rooms, wellness center, aerobics, child watch, youth fitness and game rooms, spinning and office areas. A large infant, toddler and pre-K child care area was created to provide for much-needed services in the Alliance area.

Electrical and technology work included major renovations of the electrical distribution system in the older portion of the Y building, new lighting and power, mechanical systems wiring and data/voice infrastructure. Audio/visual technology was added in the new areas for exercise entertainment and for educational purposes as well.

Horn Engineering was pleased to work with Architect Lee King of SOL Harris/Day Architects in this notable Alliance renovation.

SHELBY, OH - A landmark in this small Ohio community a few miles north of Mansfield is the former Shelby Mutual Insurance national headquarters building, now owned by North Central State College and operated as the James W. Kehoe Center for Advanced Learning. This major academic facility serves students as classrooms, meeting spaces, laboratories and auditoriums.

SOL Harris/Day Architects of North Canton, OH, was engaged to design a first-class Conference Center in an 8,000 SF area on the third floor, providing theatre/classroom seating for 450 and banquet seating for 300. The three-room divisible area was created to operate as a single large space or three individual rooms.

Horn Engineering worked closely with the architects and interior designers at SOL Harris/Day to develop fully functional lighting and audio/visual systems for every conceivable use of the space. LED downlights, compact fluorescent close-to-ceiling chandeliers, wall sconces, and fluorescent louvered troffers provide every conceivable lighting scene that might be required by the various functions possible in the center. All lighting modes are fully dimmable and controlled by a low voltage nLight lighting control system which is also integrated into the A/V control system.

The three conference rooms all have separate audio/visual systems controlled by an overall A/V master capable of operating the room systems in any one, two or three room configuration. SoundCom worked closely with Horn Engineering and SOL Harris/Day to provide systems compatible with NCSC standards and flexible for the various room orientations.

Chuck Nicholson Chevrolet Buick GMC recently completed a Chevrolet image upgrade at its Holmes County facility on State Route 39 just east of Millersburg, OH. As directed by the GM image program and in cooperation with Dick Fisher of R. Fisher Architects of Dover, OH, Horn Engineering designed the modernized facility for energy saving lighting and a more efficient electrical distribution system throughout the “customer-touch” areas of the facility. Voice and data communications were upgraded in the sales area, and new indoor service intake and automobile delivery areas were added to enhance the customer experience.

The Nicholson dealerships pride themselves on “Big City Selection with a Small Town Touch,” and the thoroughly renovated Millersburg dealership adds credence to their motto. Horn Engineering is pleased to have been of service to Chuck and his team in their latest construction endeavor, and we wish them the best at both their Millersburg and Dover locations.

AKRON and CANTON, OH - New pediatric clinics for Akron Children's Hospital on East Exchange Street in Akron and on Whipple Avenue in Canton are our Projects of the Months for November and December 2013. Caplea Studio Architects of Uniontown provided complete architectural and project management services for the design and construction of these two new medical clinic buildings.

From conception and schematic design utilizing full-scale modeling in a large Green warehouse, through actual construction document production, the Caplea team synthesized the input of medical and administrative professionals slated to use the facilities into highly productive and pleasant working environments. The neighborhoods surrounding the two new clinics now benefit from two new pediatric practices for underserved young patients in these areas.

Horn Engineering is proud to have worked in close coordination with Caplea Studio Architects and both ACH groups to design medically-efficient electrical and technology facilities. Pleasing lighting, abundant power, security and life safety systems were major components of our work, but especially critical in these buildings was the effective deployment of information technology infrastructure for the electronic medical records age.

Hennis Care Centre recently added an area featuring twelve private bedrooms, called Pat's Porch, adjacent to their Dover location. This new building is part of Hennis's "Avenue of Independence" facilities. These serve as transitional therapy homes for patients who need orthopedic, neurological, or cardiac recovery assistance.

Pat's Porch is a state-of-the-art facility that features private suites, a spa, and on-site chef-prepared meals with a full menu. It is designed to have the feel of home rather than an institution, and also to allow intimacy.

Horn Engineering provided engineering services for this modern, residential-like rehabilitation facility with all of the patient amenities of a first-class care center. Our thanks to MKC and the Hennis team for including us in this project.

Horn Engineering recently designed a new 1200 amp outdoor electrical service at Atwood Lake Park specifically for an outdoor performance venue near the campgrounds, which features the annual Alive Festival.

The Alive Festival is an annual Christian music festival that was started by a local couple twenty-six years ago. Sixty bands typically perform for the four-day event. Thirty weekend seminars and workshops are hosted at the Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District facilities, and several renowned speakers and worship leaders are also invited to address the festival goers. People from all across the United States and Canada were in attendance when the festival took place from June 19 to 22.

Power at this remote site previously was provided by portable generators, which created noise and reliability problems in this formerly electricity-challenged venue. The MWCD engaged Horn Engineering to work with American Electric Power in bringing power to the site and designing a large electrical service with appropriate cam-lock type terminal connectors to provide for the portable power needs of theatrical lighting and audio amplifiers.

Horn Engineering is pleased to have assisted MWCD on this and many other projects at its lakes and various office/campground facilities.

The Tuscarawas Attention Center, a unit of the Multi-County Juvenile Attention System, was recently completed adjacent to the Tuscarawas County Jail in the Knisely Industrial Park in New Philadelphia, OH. Architects at mbi/k2m in Cleveland, OH, designed the $3 million 24-cell unit to be flexible and effective in rehabilitating male and female juvenile offenders. Designed with two modern classrooms, an indoor gymnasium and outdoor exercise area, kitchen, administrative and counseling spaces, the facility replaces an elderly and functionally unsound building near Kent State University - Tuscarawas Campus.

Horn Engineering assisted mbi/k2m and Associate Architect Richard Fisher of Dover, OH, in the complete electrical and technology design for this detention and rehabilitation center. Emergency power is provided via a large on-site generator, and fire, CCTV security, cellblock locking, monitoring, communications and other life safety systems were included in this complicated electrical project. Wood Electric of New Philadelphia was the building's electrical and technology contractor.

Providing a modern and safe environment conducive to juvenile rehabilitation and corrections was first in the minds of the MCJAS system and the Tuscarawas County Commissioners. Horn Engineering and mbi/k2m Architects are proud to have been selected for this important local project.
