Calathea Care
Calatheas (also known as prayer plants) are beautiful house plants, which come in a range of patterned and colored leaves. They are known for their leaves, which close at night, as if it’s praying. Then, they open up again during the day. Calatheas are a slower growing plant, whose leaves will tell you exactly what it needs!
☀️ Calatheas are mostly found in the rainforest, so they are used to getting filtered light through the jungle canopy. Be sure to keep your calathea in medium light conditions, and never too close to the window. If the leaves start to fade or get crisped edges, your plant is getting too much light.
💧Water your calathea when the top two inches of soil feel dry. Their leaves may wilt, letting you know that it is time to water. Calatheas like their soil to be evenly moist, with little dry periods before waterings. They also appreciate distilled or rainwater, and humidity!
🪴Calathea’s prefer a more moist soil, but still need water to drain out easily. So, you may choose a soil which allows for aeration. This can include soils with orchid bark, perlite, etc. Any well-draining potting mix will do!
Calatheas ARE pet friendly! 🐾
