I keep seeing younger buyers fall in love with antiques, and it does not surprise me one bit. There is something about a piece with real age and history that a brand new item just cannot fake.

This has always been at the center of how I design. A worn chest, an inherited mirror, or a painting with a little patina gives a room a soul that nothing off a showroom floor can replace. The trick is knowing how to mix it with pieces made for how you live now, so the room feels collected rather than stuck in time.

Here is a bit of mood inspiration showing how I’d bring that mix to life. If you have a piece sitting in storage because you were not sure it still fit, it might be time to bring it back out.

Antique meets modern is one of my favorite ways to build a room. That weathered chest and the gilded landscape painting are doing just as much work as the new sofa and the fresh linen pillows. Neither one works as well without the other.

This is the heart of how I design. Mix in something with real age and history, build around it with pieces made for how you actually live, and let the textures and tones tie it all together. A home should never look like it came from one store on one day.

Sherwin-Williams just named Celery their 2027 Color of the Year, and it had me thinking about why green is one of my favorite colors to work with in a heritage home.

Green has this quality that most colors don’t. It can feel fresh and alive in one room, then rich and grounding in the next, depending on the depth and the undertone you choose. That range is exactly why I come back to it again and again in my designs.

I pull every green I use from my own custom Sherwin-Williams deck, built around the tones that layer beautifully with wood, brass, and the kind of furniture that gets passed down rather than replaced.

High Point Market is almost here, and I'm so excited about this season's trend theme! 🎉

It's called Combe, and it's all about rootedness: layered patterns, heirloom-quality pieces, antiques mixed with new, and design that gets better with age.

The Parade of Homes just wrapped, 51 homes, 19 Central Ohio communities, New Albany included. And I walked away impressed.

Color drenching and elevated powder rooms were everywhere this year, and honestly, builders are onto something. Saturated color with real intention. A guest bath that finally gets treated like a moment instead of an afterthought. That is the right instinct.

Here is where I would take it further. A drenched room asks for one object with real age in it, an antique mirror with true patina, not a flat paint color standing alone. A powder room asks for pattern with texture and history, hand blocked wallpaper instead of the expected accent wall.

New builds set the stage. Layers are what make a house feel like it has always been a home. That is the difference I bring to every project in New Albany and beyond.

Every September, Paris Design Week gives us a preview of where the design world is headed. This year's headline: craftsmanship is back, and I have never been happier to say I told you so.

Hand-blown Murano pendants. Art deco dining chairs with lines so clean they could have been drawn a century ago. Metals mixed with intention instead of matched by rule. Business of Home covered it as news. I have been sourcing it for clients since 2013.

Here is what I love most about pieces like these: you will not find them on a showroom floor. They come through relationships, the kind built over years of working with the right mills, glassblowers, and ateliers. That access is not something you can shop for. It is something a designer brings to the table.

I opened my inbox this week to a headline calling jewel-toned rooms the look of fall. My reaction? We have been doing this since 2013.

Burgundy. Plum. Navy. The palette everyone is calling new is the one I have built entire rooms around for over a decade. The difference is in how you layer it. Not a single accent wall, but navy from floor to ceiling. Not polished chrome, but brass that has earned its patina. Not a printed rug, but a vintage one with a real history under your feet.

Here is what I know after thirteen years of this: these rooms are not just having a moment. They photograph beautifully, they age well, and for my clients in Dublin, Powell, and New Albany thinking beyond next season, that is what actually holds value.
