Meet Bohème Design House co-owners ~ Duna Mazza & Elsa Jagniecki

We met in 2019, quickly becoming friends and started formulating our concept as a design studio on numerous walks up the Sky Steps, along the Rim Trail of Durango, on road trips to Santa Fe, Telluride, California and beyond. When COVID hit, we decided to launch Bohème.

Although our paths to arriving at Bohème are very diverse and varied - a common overlap and theme traces back to influential beginnings for both of us living in Scandinavia during our 20’s. Duna lived and studied in Copenhagen, Denmark and Elsa lived and studied in southern Sweden - both experiences shaping our foundational approach to design through the lens of a clean, organic and somewhat experimental Scandinavian aesthetic.

We’ve had some amazing recent projects that we feel very fortunate to have been a part of and we can’t wait to photograph and share them soon!

We’re really just getting going and finding our niche and are so excited for what’s to come in this next season ahead.

We’re so excited for new space to welcome all the women and mommas! It was such a joy and fun process getting to work with owner Megan Cleveland and help her bring the vision to life.

As moms ourselves having both gone through two birth processes, we can imagine the benefits of this intentional space and how important the subtle details of this design will comfort, soothe and uplift those walking through the doors and being supported by the midwives team at Southwest Midwives.

Our 2nd Spotlight Artist Series with George Schmidt, included in the freshly scent summer Newsletter just out this afternoon and on our website (link in bio).

Local Durango artist George Schmidt is a multi-disciplinary artist primarily working in painting and sculpture. His current work explores kinetic aerial sculptures and sculptural work that explore foundational balance, juxtaposition and somewhat of a geometry exercise in nature.

We caught up with George at his stunning home studio which he built during the COVID era. He gave us a tour of his “tree farm” where he is thinning his property to be fire smart while also harvesting material to feed his current obsession with kinetic sculptures and an interpretation of modern day “totems”. His current work allows him to “manifest a kind of visual dynamism currently playing out in an additional way in a series of kinetic mobiles, where the various parts move and interact in a state of constant flux.”
