Here’s a recent project to come out of my shop. I needed some additional storage and horizontal surface space in my office. This is leftover hickory flooring and plywood, with trim of Kaya wood— a mahogany substitute. The shelves are oak I harvested from my own land. I hope you enjoy it.

This tray was just a little essay in wood, trying creatively to use some nice scrap. The two outer sections are oak I milled and dried right here, while the center section is Khaya, an African mahogany sunstitute. The finish is three coats of de-waxed shellac, over which is a coat of Arm-R Seal. Shellac adds a really nice, light amber and real depth to the finish but is alcohol soluable. The Arm-R Seal protects the shellac in the event somebody spills a drink.

Well, this is the latest completed commission. This was for a very good friend, and I was glad to build it. All the lumber came from red oak I harvested and dried right here except two narrow strips, one on each side of the cutting board. That is Spanish Cedar I originally picked up for a different project, and it adds some visual interest with its rich coloring. Under the large opening on the left a storage container is slung on wooden rails where it can collect waste and be easily removed, emptied, and replaced.

These are samples of my work. I’ll try to describe each of them for you individually in the comments.

Welcome to Winnie’s Woodshop! Winnie is my (somewhat reluctant) shop pup. I lover her, but she hates the noise!

I am a self-taught woodworker who has built everything from custom cabinetry to custom tables. Nowadays, much of my work uses oak from my own land that I have milled up and dried. I currently have white oak, red oak, and some hickory (from a local farm). I can (and have) sourced other woods, including Sepele, Khaya, Ash, Maple, and pretty much anything else folks want. I am currently working on two commissions: a narrow wall table built to fit the client’s wall just below a stairway, and a specialized butcher block table for use in a kitchen. I have one I built for myself with a knife block and a waste container to which one can sweep trimmings and other waste when cutting up vegetables, etc.

If you look through the pictures, you’ll see examples of work I have done. Do you want a custom table built? Do you have another project in mind? Give me a call!
