The last time I drove past a certain 1930s house in central Phoenix, its roofline was glowing evenly along all three of its steps. 🎄

This National Make a Difference Day, we recognize the incredible work of 𝗔𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗮 𝗛𝗼𝗽𝗲 𝗥𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗯𝗼𝘄 𝗔𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗹𝘀, an organization dedicated to supporting children battling cancer and their families.

Their mission holds a special place in our hearts. Our namesake, 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗶𝗲 𝗠𝗮𝗲, devoted her life as a pediatric oncology nurse, caring for children with compassion and dignity.

Through our partnership with 𝗔𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗮 𝗛𝗼𝗽𝗲 𝗥𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗯𝗼𝘄 𝗔𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗹𝘀, we're grateful to play a small part in continuing the kindness and care she believed in.

Because sometimes, the brightest light we can share is the hope we bring to others. 💙

Last December I watched a hostess greet her guests at her own front door, glass in hand, in no hurry.

I want that for you. Your party begins in the foyer, before anyone takes off a coat. A guest steps in from the cool Scottsdale dark and reads your whole house in a second. Warm, or only bright?

A few weeks ago I watched guests come up a Paradise Valley front walk with their heads up, already talking.

That is what a lit walk does. Yours is the one part of your home every guest stops in front of, and I would bet you have never seen it the way they do. ✨

Entry garlands and path lighting tend to get bought separately, weeks apart. I think that is why so many beautiful homes still feel unfinished in December. Designed together, they read as one welcome.

October is the month to plan it, while there is still dusk to stand in.

Last week in Oro Valley, near the Catalina foothills, I watched a test strand blink, dim, and go dark halfway across a roofline.

I have seen that enough times to stop blaming the bulbs. When Christmas lights fail by the second week of December, the trouble usually starts earlier, in an outlet nobody tested or a circuit carrying your landscape lighting and pool pump.

Before anything touches your roofline, our crew tests every outlet that will carry the load and seals each connection against monsoon humidity. You will never see that work. That is rather the point. 🎄

October is a good month for it. ✨

Last week, out past the saguaros near the Tortolitas, I saw the first string of lights going up along a Marana roofline. It still looked like September. 🌵

That is the point.

Out here the heat hangs on, and it's easy to let the warm evenings convince you there's time. I'd rather you plan by the calendar than the thermometer. Start early and your roofline, your tree, and your mantel can all come together in the same unhurried stretch, with room to change your mind.

Then the first cool night arrives, and all you have to do is step outside and look. ✨
