Margie Mae's Holiday Decor was named for our founder's mother — a pediatric oncology nurse who loved Christmas deeply and who lives on in every strand of blue C-9 lights we hang. Her legacy is the reason we do not simply install. In her honor, we proudly support Amanda Hope Rainbow Angels, a local organization that creates comfort shirts for children with chemo ports. She called us in January. Three weeks after the holidays ended. She said she almost didn't call because she wasn't sure what to ask for.

What she knew was this: she had watched her neighbor's roofline on her Oro Valley street all through December. Every evening when she pulled into her driveway, the warm light along the stucco caught her eye. She described it the way most people describe something they've been looking at without quite understanding. "It just looked different. Better. Like it belonged to the street in a way the other houses didn't."

There is a particular kind of homeowner I think about every August. She has taste. Real taste, the kind that shows in every room of her Marana home year round. And every December she brings that same care to the holidays and the result is genuinely beautiful.

But somewhere in the back of her mind is a version of the home she has never quite seen. Not because her instincts are wrong. Because nobody has ever asked her to describe it out loud.

Not closed. Not slow. Full. The design calendar fills by September, and when it does, there is nothing to move around. The clients who got everything they wanted booked in late summer, when there was still time to talk through the look, pull the right pieces, and build something that actually fits the home.
That tree in the photo took planning. The ribbon cascade, the layered ornament palette, the warm lighting worked into every branch. None of that happens in two weeks. It happens because someone made one call before the rush.

I stood at the front door of a Phoenix home last December, the evening the lights came on for the first time. The homeowner stood beside me and neither of us said anything for a moment.

The flat roofline held a clean unbroken line of warm light against the darkening sky. The entry, with its wreath and garland, looked exactly the way it was always supposed to look.

She turned to me and said seven words I've thought about since. "I never would have thought of this."

Not as a compliment. As a fact. That's the conversation that starts in August. 🎄

My grandchildren are coming in December. And every year around this time I start thinking about the tree.

Not whether to have one. About how it's designed. Whether the ornaments I love will hold up to a four year old who has never met one she didn't want to touch. Whether the garland will stay where I put it when the dog decides the living room is a racecourse.

What I've learned is that none of those questions require a compromise. The home looks exactly the way it should. The decisions that protect it just happen to be invisible.

Most people think permanent lighting means roofline lights. Clip them up in November, take them down in January. Done.
What you are looking at is something different. Roofline, yes. Both gable peaks. Garage. Porch columns. Entry arch. And landscape uplighting tied into the same system. It is not a string of lights. It is a design that follows the architecture of the home.
Permanent architectural lighting gets installed once. After that it is one switch. Holidays, game nights, the Tuesday you just want the house to look right. It is always ready.

There's a test I apply every time I walk into a Paradise Valley great room in December. Would I know, without being told, that someone thought carefully about this?

Most rooms announce their holiday decor. The best ones just look finished. Complete in a way the room somehow didn't feel in October.

A homeowner I spoke with recently put it better than I could. After her first custom garland was placed along her mantle, she said it looked like it had always been there. As though the room had been waiting for it.

The part of a holiday installation most homeowners never see is the part that makes the day itself disappear.

A homeowner who'd never worked with a full-service decor company before described her first installation in six words: "It felt like nothing at all." She'd braced for something complicated. The crew came, completed the work, and left. She came home to a finished house with the Catalinas glowing behind the roofline.

That's the product of everything that happened in the months before. The design, the materials, the HOA submission, all of it handled long before anyone knocked on her door. July is when that work starts. 🎄

That room was already beautiful.Most people would have left it alone. A sunroom with Saltillo tile and French doors looking out to the yard does not need much. She knew that. She called anyway. 🎄What came back was a pencil tree that fits the height of the room without competing with it. A garland that follows the window line instead of fighting it. A palette, crimson, gold, ch*****ne, that picks up the warm tones already in the wood and tile. Nothing was forced. Nothing was moved. The room looked the way it always should have.That is the part most people do not expect. The install does not change a home. Something I didn't expect when I moved to Arizona was how many evenings I'd want the house to feel like something was happening. Not just Christmas. A graduation in May, a birthday in September, a quiet Fourth of July with the grandchildren on the back patio.

What I love about the permanent lighting systems going in on Marana rooflines right now is that they answer all of it. One tap on a phone shifts the color, the mood, the whole feeling of the front of the house. You don't need a crew, a ladder, or a reason beyond wanting the evening to feel like something.
