I added coffee to this painting—on purpose. ☕
Every morning, coffee is my little ritual, a gentle beginning. Maybe you have one, too. I like to sit by the window, hands wrapped around a warm mug, and wonder what the day might bring.
Yesterday brought rain and wind, an invitation to stay inside and create. What could I make of a day like that?
As I watched the rain, an idea came to me: what if I used some of those coffee grounds in my painting?
That little thought followed me into the studio. I mixed coffee grounds with modeling paste and used the mixture to build an uneven, grainy surface. The small bumps and ridges became part of the painting itself.
Then came shades of green and a touch of turquoise. I worked the colors across the textured surface, balancing between deeper and softer greens, then revealing little details. Slowly, the colors set the mood.
The palette is simple, but finding the right shade takes patience. I’m working with acrylics, and the colors can shift as they dry. Even the smallest change can alter the whole feeling.
I began imagining water meeting mossy ground. Light through mist. I love that rough, uneven surface holding such soft color, a little wildness beneath the calm.
There are so many possibilities when you start experimenting. I keep reminding myself to stay true to myself and follow my intuition. I had so much fun seeing where it took me.
My ordinary morning became something special.
I’m calling this painting “After the Rain.”
What does it make you feel?
