Basket Case NW is officially closed for business.
So many things have changed in the last year. We quit drinking over a year ago. I started looking after my health and eating habits and lost 40lbs. I got licensed through New York State and opened a daycare/play-school. My husband got promoted to Sergeant First Class. 👏🏼 (so proud of you, honey.) Our kids started full time school. And I turned my little sewing room (sanctuary if I’m honest) into the nap room for my childcare babies.
It all happened serendipitously. My very last rope shipment arrived, and to my dismay, the rope quality was poor. The typically sustainable wooden spools were switched for plastic ones. And the rope was dirty and thin. Which honestly made it easier for me to close up shop.
I gifted my sewing table (that my husband built) to a local woman who quilts with her young daughter. Gifted my sewing chair to a brother and sister who wanted it for their mom. 🥹 idk, everything just ended on such a wonderful note. I’m incredibly grateful for the last 4 years that I had Basket Case. But this next chapter is one I’ve wanted to open for the last decade.

Big changes are happening over here. As many of you know by now, I’m opening a daycare. A dream I’ve had since I was 22. Nearly nine years later, it’s coming together and I couldn’t be more excited.

Opening a childcare business and getting licensed through the state is incredibly time consuming and the amount of paperwork is overwhelming to say the least. Not to mention inspections, in-person classes and trainings, getting our water tested, being cleared with state and federal background checks, gathering recommendation letters, medical statements, TB tests, etc..

One thing I’m incredibly grateful for is Basket Case NW and all of its supporters. I was absolutely determined to pay for everything (daycare related) using funds from my current basket business. This included: 15 yards of mulch for the outside play area, all of my tables, cubbies, toys, and shelves downstairs, first aid kits and fire extinguishers, baby gates and a professional wall mounted diaper changing table, CO2 monitors, puzzles, games, art supplies, mats for nap time. And so much more.

I didn’t do this. We did this. You all have been so so so supportive of my work and my baskets. And I truly can’t begin to express how grateful I am. Because of your kindness and support, I was able to outfit my daycare in its entirety.

Both of my children are in full time school now. So our walls aren’t echoing with laughter and little squeals anymore during the day.
But they will be soon. And I can’t wait to fill our home with that wonderful sound again.

Felt cute. Might sew 613 baskets later.

I haven’t posted since April!!??? What is wrong with me! Actually, it’s been nice. Market season is here so I’m a busy busy bee…well.. Sort of. Busy spending a lot of time with my kids and playing outside, tending to my flowers. Busy with yard work and arts and crafts. Busy looking after our home and keeping up with the laundry. Busy going to strawberry orchards as a family. Busy FaceTiming with my precious Mama. Busy relaxing on our front porch reading a good book. The restful kind of busy. And it’s pretty sweet 🍓

Moving on. Tomorrow is our 6 year marriage anniversary. I can’t in good conscience call it our ‘wedding’ anniversary because we didn’t have a wedding. We went to the courthouse and told no one! We actually had to pay the security guard and secretary $15 each to be a witness 😂

May is going to be a busy month for Basket Case Northwest. Farmers market season starts so I’ll be busy sewing up a storm in preparation. I’m going to try to keep my inventory updated on my website though, as time consuming as that can be!

Hello, fellow basket lovers!

It’s feeling like spring here in New York (finally! We had about 4” of fresh snow just a couple weeks ago!) but today the sun is shining, it’s 64° and things are starting to bloom. What’s the weather like where you’re at??!!! I’d love to know.

I’m gearing up for the farmers market season and I’m really hoping my new designs take off. Pictured is one of them: The Homesteader Basket. I have 6 of them in various colors and sizes listed on my website. *hint hint* Lol

💐With Mother’s Day on the horizon, I wanted to give a little heads up that I’ll be launching a ✨NEW✨ design in the coming days. You may have seen it in my stories last week. It’s kind of like a vase with a hand-stitched leather rim. And when it’s not being used for fresh bouquets of flowers, Mom can use it for whatever else she wants. So stay tuned for that product drop!

If you’re looking for a tote with an organic and minimalistic design, this is your tote!

Made from natural cotton rope and constructed on my sewing machine. This Circle Tote is the perfect bag for everyday use. They come in two different sizes: Medium- 10” wide. And Large- 12” wide.
It’s small enough to not get in your way or seem “bulky”, but large enough to carry your essentials: phone, keys, wallet, sunglasses, etc..

The Circle Tote has two zippers for easy accessibility. As well as an adjustable strap so you can wear it crossbody, or shorten the strap to wear over your shoulder.
