A traditional Japanese Naga Hibachi, expertly designed with a central charcoal heating compartment and integrated drawer unit, embodies the warmth and connection that fosters community and togetherness. As a cornerstone in traditional Japanese homes, the Naga Hibachi served as a portable hearth, cultivating meaningful relationships and a sense of belonging. These antique, double-sided, hand-carved Chinese wood panels, featuring intricate high-relief figures, floral motifs, and landscape scenes in a gilded finish, were traditionally used as window grilles or interior partition screens in affluent Chinese homes. This is a vintage Museum of Atomic Energy neutron irradiated dime souvenir holder with a 1964 (90% silver) irradiated dime. This one in particular is from the 1960’s, most likely from 1964-1965. Back in the 1950’s-60’s, with the rise of atomic energy, irradiated dimes were a hot souvenir at Oak Ridge, Atomic Energy Museums, and during the 1964-1965 World Fair! A 90% silver dime was passed through a neutron source, briefly making the silver radioactive to show the process of neutron activation. The level of radioactivity was extremely low and decayed completely within minutes of the process. Then, once irradiated, the dimes were placed in either a case or a souvenir dime holder, like this one! Please take time to read the following article for more information!
