🚨SCAM ALERT🚨
ECPD has received reports of a local scam targeting church members. Text messages are being sent out to members of local churchs using their pastor’s name, asking recipients to purchase gift cards, send money, or mail items to a specific address. THESE MESSAGES ARE A SCAM!
❌ DO NOT purchase gift cards or send money in response to these messages.
❌ DO NOT provide personal or financial information.
❌ DO NOT send anything to an address provided in an unsolicited text.
If you receive a message claiming to be from your pastor or church requesting money, gift cards, or personal information, contact your local pastor or church directly to verify whether the request is legitimate. Do not use the contact information provided in the suspicious message to verify it.
Please share this information with your family, friends, and fellow church members. A few extra minutes of verification can help prevent someone from becoming a victim of a scam.
