The Spirit of the American West has never been about following the expected path.

It’s about having the courage to imagine something different—and the willingness to do the work to make it possible.

For us, that meant leaving the Seattle area and moving to Ellensburg. Choosing a different life than the one we saw unfolding around us. Stepping into something unfamiliar, without knowing exactly where it would lead.

That decision eventually brought American West as you know it today.

And in many ways, the same spirit that brought us here shapes the way we see design.

We believe in honoring the past without being confined by it. In appreciating traditional craftsmanship, timeworn materials, familiar patterns, and the beauty of things made to last.

But inspiration isn’t imitation.

We want to take those influences and see them differently. To bring old ideas into new conversations. To create spaces and objects that feel rooted in history but unmistakably relevant to the way we live today.

Because the Spirit of the American West isn’t about recreating what once was.

It’s about having the courage, imagination, and determination to create what could be.

Last night we closed the doors and gave American West its Christmas reset. ✨

There were boxes everywhere, furniture shifting, displays being rebuilt, ornaments finding their place—and more than a few things getting moved one more time before we called it done.

We’ve been collecting this Christmas assortment for months, so seeing it all come together in the store felt pretty special.

Our goal was never to make the store feel like a completely different place for Christmas. We wanted the season to layer in naturally—warm, nostalgic, collected, and full of pieces you’ll be excited to bring out year after year.

A Home for Gathering

Preparing your home for the holidays doesn’t have to mean making everything perfect. Start with the places people naturally come together.

If you’re going to invest in a few pieces, begin with the ones that support gathering.

A dining table is more than a place to eat. It becomes the foundation for holiday meals, card games, late-night conversations and all the ordinary moments in between.

Think about seating: a comfortable sofa people actually want to sink into, accent chairs that can be pulled closer to the conversation, dining chairs comfortable enough that no one is in a hurry to leave the table.

These are the pieces that matter long after the holiday decorations are packed away.

Then let the season layer on top—candles, greenery, favorite dishes, a beautiful pillow, something warm to drink.

These petrified wood tables stopped us in our tracks.

No two are alike—the shape, grain, cracks and markings are all part of the material’s story. Paired with a beautifully simple metal base, they feel sculptural without trying too hard.

This is the kind of piece we’re always looking for at American West: natural materials, incredible character, and something you’re unlikely to see in every other home.

Beautiful on its own, even better collected as a pair.

We really love a good pillow around here. 🤍

And judging by how often you take them home, we know we’re not the only ones.

We just brought in some really good new ones—along with plenty of the tried-and-true favorites we keep coming back to. Beautiful textures, great patterns, warm neutrals, a little leather. The kind of pieces that make a room feel more layered, collected, and like home.
