Our most popular table design, the trestle. And this one is the original.

And we can see why it’s so popular. Because trestle tables make a statement while being very practical and very beautiful. We make our trestle tops nearly 2” thick. The legs are 4” thick - solid hardwood too, no fillers.

And the best part of the trestle design is 2 fold: You can position chairs or benches anywhere while having near unlimited leg room. AND. If you opt for benches, they can be pushed entirely under the table for storage.

This particular table is 8ft long, 3ft wide, seats up to 10, has a matching bench, and features American Black Walnut as the wood of choice. It’s finished to a gorgeous satin sheen with a natural hardening oil, Rubio Monocoat. What we love about this finish in particular - it can be touched up by the owner. More than that, it has zero plastics.

It’s our absolute favorite table design to build. And we’d be delighted to build one for you.

I’ve built many tables for many clients before this one. But in 2022, I discovered what it meant to have a table worth sitting and eating at.

At home, I was raised eating in the living room in front of TV - usually with The Simpsons playing. My parents worked long hours, so we didn’t get much time at the table. Not to mention, our table was one of those pretty but wobbly ones you’d find in the big furniture stores… and I thought that’s what tables were. More or less useless for actually eating at.

Meanwhile at my Maw Maws house, she’d cook enough food for an army and the family would eat at plastic folding tables - there just wasn’t enough room for a couple dozen people at her dining table.

Fast forward to me having built a few tables for clients, I really started seeing how nice it was to gather around the table and eat as a family. So I built our family a table. Not a wobbly one. Not a veneered one. But an 8ft long trestle table from beautiful hardwood. I took my time to make it look and feel right. I discovered what my customers already knew: It wasn’t just a table. This became the single most important place in my home.

We no longer worry about if the table will hold an entire meal. Or if the food is too warm for the veneer. Or if the kids spill something on it. In fact, we let them go nuts with art projects. We bring all the food to the table and set it out and enjoy family time.

I didn’t expect a piece of furniture to change our family dynamic, and for the better, but since then we’ve grown closer as a family.

A good table isn’t just designed to look good. It has to belong in the room.

This one is a substantial 7’ x 4’ cypress table built to comfortably seat 8. Since it was going into a nook, a traditional four post design would have eaten up valuable leg room. Instead, we went with two massive built up 8” x 8” pedestals. They command plenty of visual space without taking it away from the people sitting around the table.

Up top is a knot-free, 2” thick cypress top with a traditional round over and a full apron made from the same material. Underneath, sliding Z-clips secure the top while still allowing the solid wood to move naturally with the seasons.

But the part I spend the most time thinking about is something you can’t really put on a spec sheet: visual proportion.

The thicker top and apron, oversized pedestals, minimal profiles, and lack of a traditional stretcher all work together to make this a modern interpretation of a French style table rather than a reproduction of one.

We finished it with an espresso stain to complement the cypress trim already in the room, followed by a satin water-based polyurethane. It’s smooth and water-resistant without giving the wood that cheap, overly shiny look. And the satin finish lets the finer sophisticated grain of the cypress do the talking.

Good furniture isn’t just about making something beautiful.

It’s thinking through the room, the people who will use it, and all the little details that make the finished piece feel like it was always supposed to belong there.

A long-time customer reached back out to me for an unexpected project: a table.

What? Why was a table unexpected? Because she already had one in her dining room 😂 She loved the first one, and explained that they were building a family room onto their house and wanted a table for a nook area to gather around.

So we designed this timeless 2 pedestal French-style cypress table with an espresso stain for her. Not only does it match the trim in their favorite room, it’s a space for entertaining, connecting, and enjoying some family games.

Alongside our rebrand has also been a shift in carefully deciding what our “no” should be, so we can save our “yes” for the best: bringing back the heart of the family table.
