Unfortunately, the Town of Elsmere’s Fall Festival scheduled for Saturday, October 17, 2026, has been cancelled due to the impending storm and anticipated weather conditions including the rain and wind.

After careful consideration, we determined that the expected rainfall could leave the park fields too saturated for safe access and setup. We want to prioritize everyone’s safety while also being mindful of the potential challenges and financial impact this could have on our vendors.

We understand this is disappointing news and sincerely apologize for any inconvenience. We appreciate all of our vendors, community members and everyone who planned to join us for this event.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support of the Town of Elsmere. ❤️

EDITED TO ADD: The Town of Elsmere's Trunk-or-Treat Spooktacular is still on as scheduled for Saturday, October 24th! That will be a rain or shine event!

The Town of Elsmere has been notified again by the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC) Mosquito Control Section that strategic mosquito fogging is planned for Elsmere tonight, Wednesday, October 14th, weather permitting. Fogging is expected to take place between approximately 7:00 PM and midnight in the immediate and surrounding areas of Fairgrounds Park.

DNREC conducts targeted mosquito fogging during the evening hours when mosquitoes are most active to help reduce older mosquito populations that are more likely to contribute to virus transmission. This is a precautionary measure and is part of routine mosquito control efforts. There is no cause for concern.

DNREC Mosquito Control only uses products registered by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for mosquito control purposes. When applied according to label instructions, these products are determined by the EPA to pose no unreasonable risks to human health, wildlife, or the environment.

While exposure to the spraying is not expected to cause harm to the general public, residents who wish to minimize their exposure are encouraged to remain indoors while fogging is taking place. Individuals who are particularly sensitive to chemicals may experience mild allergic reactions and should consult a medical professional if symptoms occur.

Residents in the affected area should be aware of the planned operation and take whatever precautions they feel are appropriate.

Please share this information with your Elsmere neighbors so everyone can be prepared.

Thank you to DNREC Mosquito Control for helping protect our community! 🦟

The Town of Elsmere is deeply saddened by the passing of Senator Patricia M. Blevins, a woman whose dedication to public service left a lasting mark on our community and the State of Delaware.

Patti began her public service right here in the Town of Elsmere, serving on Town Council before becoming Mayor, a position she held from 1985 until 1990. She went on to represent Delaware in the State Senate for nearly three decades, including serving as President Pro Tempore. Throughout her years in public service, she never lost sight of the communities and people she was proud to represent.

Patti believed in making a difference, not just through words, but through action. She was a strong advocate for those who needed a voice and devoted herself to causes that mattered deeply to her, including domestic violence prevention and animal welfare. She was also a very strong advocate for the Town of Elsmere. Her work touched countless lives across Delaware, including right here in the community where her public service began.

One of the most lasting reminders of Patti’s impact on Elsmere can be found along the Senator Patricia M. Blevins Pedestrian Path, which connects Fairgrounds Park with Maple Avenue Park. Patti played an important role in helping bring the path to our community during her time as a State Senator, creating a safe place for residents to walk, exercise and enjoy the outdoors.

Today, her name lives along that path as a permanent part of Elsmere. Every resident who walks it, every family who enjoys it and every person who passes through it is reminded of someone who believed in investing in her community and making it better for those who came after her.

Patti’s legacy is not defined solely by the offices she held or the years she spent in public service. It can be found in the people she helped, the causes she championed, the communities she strengthened and the many lives she touched along the way.

During this difficult time, we are keeping Patti’s loved ones close in our thoughts. While we mourn her loss, we are also grateful for the years she gave to Elsmere and for the lasting mark she left on the community she called home.

We are grateful that Patti’s legacy will forever be a part of the Town she once served. May we continue to honor her by enjoying, caring for and walking the path that proudly carries her name.

Rest peacefully, Senator Blevins. Thank you for your years of service to Elsmere and to Delaware. ❤️

From The Delaware Office of Highway Safety: Sponsor this year’s Sober Rides program!

The Delaware Office of Highway Safety (OHS) will once again offer the Sober Rides program during four high-risk drinking holidays: Thanksgiving Eve, New Year’s Eve, St. Patrick’s Day, and July Fourth. The program offers Delawareans a practical way to get home safely by providing opportunities to claim a $20 ride-share voucher for Lyft or Uber. The primary goal of Sober Rides is to decrease the number of impaired driving crashes in Delaware.

Last year, the program provided 904 rides—an increase of approximately 200 rides over the previous year! We look forward to making this year’s program bigger and better, but we need your help.

OHS funding from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) cannot be used to cover the cost of Sober Rides vouchers. The program relies solely on sponsor contributions. Contributions of any amount can make a difference, allowing us to offer more rides during existing program holidays and potentially expand the program to additional holidays, such as Memorial Day Weekend.

To learn more about the Sober Rides program, its mission, and how to become a sponsor, email [email protected].
