San Diego and Bali’s coveted residential and commercial interior design team, DESIGN 4 CORNERS is a sister duo lead by San Diego natives, Elaina Myers and Susanna Samaniego. Splitting time between North County San Diego and Bali Indonesia, the sisters boast a portfolio of award winning designs from beach bungalows in the far east to million dollar estates on the west coast. We love a good “what if we kept it?” moment.

When so much of this home was being reimagined, this fireplace was one of the few pieces of the original house left standing. It had once lived in the family’s living room, and there was something about it we just weren’t ready to let go of.

So instead of treating it like something we had to work around, we started thinking about how we could make it feel intentional. What if it became part of the entry? What if the new office sat just across from it? And what if those glass doors framed the fireplace so you could look up from the desk and still see this little piece of the original home?

That’s exactly where we landed.

We worked with MATERIAL Bespoke Stone + Tile to bring the fireplace design to life, and they made the process incredibly easy. The craftsmanship is beautiful, the clients love it, and we love that something from the home’s past has become one of our favorite moments in its next chapter.

We can’t imagine the home without it now!

Every room has a beginning. For this primary bathroom, it was the stone.

Our client wanted color, movement, and a little soul, carried from the vanity into the shower. Once we found these slabs, we spent hours deciding where every vein would land so the movement flowed as one continuous piece. Seeing her face when it all came together made every hour worth it.

So much love has gone into this home. This room is their reward: a quiet place to breathe after the busiest days with three kids.

That is what designing a home means to us. Every decision carries intention, shaped by the people who will live there and what they hope their home will feel like. We take real pride in making sure the finished space feels entirely theirs.

Swipe to the end and you will find the months before: a bare arched niche, cardboard mirror templates taped to the wall, the slab waiting for everything else to catch up.

Sometimes one material tells the whole story. Sometimes it just tells you where to start.

We’re growing our team! Design 4 Corners is looking for a full-time FF&E + Procurement Coordinator to join us in Carlsbad. This role is at the heart of bringing our designs to life. From managing proposals through ordering, tracking, receiving, installation, and project close-out. We’re looking for someone who is highly organized, detail-oriented, collaborative, and ready to take ownership of the procurement process while working alongside our design team, vendors, and project partners.

• 3+ years of experience in the design world
• Proficiency in Studio Designer strongly preferred

The best part of designing a home is getting to know the people who will live in it and letting their story shape what it becomes.

Our latest project in Encinitas brings together California ease, an Australian coastal sensibility, and a few meaningful pieces of its past.

But our favorite part might be the family at the heart of it all. Their story is quite literally built into these walls and we can’t wait to share a little more of it with you.

The powder room is small, but she has a big job!

It’s the one room where you can break the rules a little, show some personality, and give your guests something to look at. Because in a space this small, every detail gets noticed.

We love treating the powder room as its own little design moment a place to take a risk, tell a story, and offer a glimpse of who you are without having to say a word.

Not everything old needs a new beginning.

This nearly 100-year-old fireplace was one of the few original details we kept in this home, and there was never much question about it. The craftsmanship, the ornamentation, the history, it already had the kind of character you simply can’t recreate.

We love when a home can hold more than one era at a time. When something created generations ago can live alongside contemporary art, rich color, and pieces collected today and feel even more special because of the contrast.

Nearly a century later, this fireplace is still doing exactly what beautiful design should do: holding its own, gathering people around it, and giving the room a story.

The home has this power, it’s a beautiful power.

The ability to hold space for you in such a non judgmental way, it holds so much. It holds all the energy, all the memories, all the laughs, all the cries, all the fights, all the secrets, all the joys, all the wins, all the losses, everything!

Because of that, it’s a safe place, and so, it has the power to elevate you. And when you surround yourself in beauty and what you think is beautiful, you’re gonna feel a certain way.
