Lance was cast using molten aluminum on a colony of red invasive fire ants August 15, 2026, in Ozark, Alabama, and finished August 19, 2026. Its name is influenced by the long spire that protrudes from its side, which appears like a knight’s jousting lance from the medieval times. In those days, a jousting lance was a specialized, blunt wooden pole measuring roughly 9 to 12 feet long, designed to shatter upon impact against an opponent's armor or shield. Muscadine was cast using molten aluminum on a colony of red invasive fire ants August 15, 2026, in Enterprise, Alabama, and finished August 17, 2026. It was cast on a colony that formed about two feet from a 50’ muscadine bush and its name is inspired by the unique muscadine plants that grow in Southern Alabama and Northern Florida. Betsy Harris, a naturalist, writer, and avid forager based in Northeast Florida who focuses on the botanical heritage of the American Southeast Coastal Plain, wrote, “Once you've bit down on a fresh muscadine, juice and pulp bursting onto your tongue, table grapes will seem flavorless. Muscadines are sweet, but there's also a pleasant hint of tartness.” Muscadine’s wood base measures 7” x 7”. The cast is approximately 6.5” wide. Tango is a set of two casts using molten aluminum on two different colonies of field ants (not fire ants - field ants produce a very different tunnel system than fire ants) in Ozark, Alabama, Aug. 14, 2026, and finished Aug. 16, 2026. Why the name Tango? Because it take two. Each wood base measures wood base measures 4.5” x 4.5”. Overflow was cast using molten aluminum on a colony of red invasive fire ants August 2, 2026, in Enterprise, Alabama, and finished August 17, 2026. Its name is inspired by its appearance. As the pouring of the mound stopped, some of the aluminum overflowed and created a platform beside the mound. Paulo Coelho de Souza, a Brazilian novelist and lyricist, wrote, “Be like the fountain that overflows, not like the cistern that merely contains.” Overflow's oval wood base measures 11” x 8.5”. Two Towers was cast using molten aluminum on a colony of red invasive fire ants August 8, 2026, in Abbeville, Alabama, and finished August 11, 2026. Its name is inspired by its appearance and by the book titled The Two Towers by J.R. R. Tolkien. Here is a quote by the character Samwise Gamgee on his inspiring reflection on hope. "There’s some good in this world, Mr. Frodo, and it’s worth fighting for." Two Tower’s wood base, made from solid cedar, measures approximately 3.5” x 3.5”. The cast is 3.75” wide. Zephyr was cast using molten aluminum on a colony of red invasive fire ants July 25, 2026, in Abbeville, Alabama, and finished July 28, 2026. Its name is inspired by the word zephyr, which is a soft, gentle breeze, named after the Greek god of the west wind. In mythology, Zephyrus brings spring and light breezes. Here are a few lines from the poem titled Zephyr Wind by Heather Z. Hanna;
Zephyr wind blowing easy and warm,
Where do you go?
Do you blow until you meet a friend?
Exchanging leaves and dust.
Dance around until
Your return, you must.

My very first cast from the summer of 2016 using a homemade forge, charcoal and a hair dryer. The cast is circular. After more than 200 more castings since ten, a circular cast has never happened again. Named 'Family Circle' for a reason. It has a permanent place in our Enterprise home.

Shadow was cast using molten aluminum on April 21, 2026, from a colony of red invasive fire ants and finished June 20, 2026. the name was inspired due to the aluminum that flow from the base during pouring, which appears like a shadow. It’s name is also inspired by a quote from Jay Kristoff, an Australian-born author of fantasy and science fiction. “The brighter the light, the deeper the shadow.” Shadow’s round wood base measures 9” in diameter. The cast is approximately 8.5” wide. The cast and base weigh 1.23 pounds and stand 4.75” tall.
