I want to shout out my hard working Business Manager, .avery0 for all her help the past 2 years. She's DJ'd road trips to the lumber store in Buffalo and learned about all kinds of exotic hardwoods. She helps design pieces, sets up and tears down at dozens of shows, takes photos, and knows how to use the square app.

Most importantly, she's incredible to watch and listen to interact with strangers. She has no fear saying hi to people and drawing them into our tent. She explains how we mill the lumber and shape it into items we hope will last forever in someone's home. She knows where the wood comes from, how to care for everything we sell, and the best uses for her favorite items. She also interjects her own humor and I can just sit back and let her do her thing.

I got a chance to make a cutting board as a birthday gift for one of my best friends, Andrew. I've been blessed with a ridiculous-sized group of extremely close friends of more than 30 years. We talk often, get together whenever possible, and support one another at the drop of a hat no questions asked.

This board meant a lot as the design was agreed upon over a glass of whisky with Mark. Born on the same day, just 60 seconds the elder, Mark reached out to discuss a cutting board for his twin brother. He wanted a gift that would reflect his appreciation for their history as twins, but also to celebrate how Andrew leads by example. He takes on many roles as a dad, coach, boy scout leader, husband, son, etc. Always there for anyone and quick to make you laugh.

I've never attempted a board this complex, but with my YouTube degree in hand I decided it was time. Having learned so much from I attempted to replicate one of his boards. I used Brazilian Cherry, Black Walnut, and Maple from in Buffalo, NY. This was a super fun process since I've learned to game plan each step. But, I mistakenly rushed the juice groove and cut the opposite direction leading to 2 divots in one side. Juice grooves are the most stressful step of an end grain cutting board because it's the last time I am cutting into the board before only having to sand it. I rushed this part at the beginning and pushed the router the wrong direction, causing it to skip ahead and create both divots. Lesson learned. 🤦

I'm happy with the design and the overall planning process. Sanding took nearly 2 days so I'm hoping the new sand paper in the drum sander will lead to less grooves to remove. I'm pumped to try new techniques and figure out more complex designs.

What would you like to see me try?

Had an amazing time at my first ever vendor show down at on Saturday. Lillie was an amazing saleswoman and took over greeting people and explaining different species, how to care for the boards, how she designed her own set of coasters, and that my business cards have a QR code that takes people to my Instagram. Very proud dad day. Our first sale was her set of coasters!

Now it's time to re-stock the cutting boards and bottle-opening coasters. I will be back down there July 29, Aug 12 & 26th with my business manager.

Come check out all the amazing local people with tables. kept everyone libated(?) and fed! I got to meet so many woodworkers who were sharing tips and tricks and talking about how we overcome process challenges. Artists like and her mother had incredible items for sale.

Thank you to everyone that stopped by to say hi and to everyone who purchased an item! I truly hope the boards and coasters exceed your expectations and last forever. If you ever have a question or concern, please reach out because I love (and need) feedback. 🍀🪵🪚🤘
