Architectural details abounds in this inviting transition space. V-grooved paneling lines the built-in bookcases, tongue-and-groove cedar adds warmth to the walls above, and clear rift-and-quarter-sawn white oak floors bring a refined, cohesive finish.

Summer Camp at Home⛺️Design Ideas for a Memorable Summer

There is something irresistible about summer camp—the freedom, the rituals, the feeling that every ordinary day might turn into an adventure. At home, thoughtful design can capture some of that magic, creating spaces that encourage gathering, playing, exploring, and lingering. From bunk rooms and outdoor showers to pool houses, sleeping porches and backyard game spaces, the right design can turn a summer house or a year-round home into its own private summer camp.

This custom C&M timber-frame pool house pairs reclaimed and local materials with refined craftsmanship, thoughtfully designed to complement its natural New England setting. Designed for gathering and retreat, it features a cozy stone hearth, kitchen and bar, guest bath, laundry, and outdoor shower all overlooking the pool and spa with a bluestone surround.

Pergolas extend the living space on either side, while the core truss support is centered on the main house, bringing structure, symmetry, and a sense of permanence to the composition.

Set above Good Harbor Beach in Gloucester, MA, this 1900s carriage house was thoughtfully renovated and expanded. A palette of natural stone, cedar, and other warm materials complements the home's historic character, while a curved deck inspired by the bow of a ship reflects its connection to the sea.
