The man who made billions selling stuffed animals owns one of the most stunning private estates on the California coast…
Ty Warner, the billionaire founder of Beanie Babies, owns a $40 million estate along the Santa Barbara coastline — a 14,408-square-foot property with seven bedrooms, 13 bathrooms, and sweeping ocean views that he purchased in 2003 for $21 million.
Warner is the CEO and sole owner of Ty Inc., which manufactures Beanie Babies. At the peak of the Beanie Babies craze around 1999, the company is believed to have earned over $700 million in profits in a single year, elevating Warner's net worth past $2.5 billion and turning a $5 plush toy into one of the most unexpected fortunes in American business history.
His real estate portfolio extends well beyond the oceanfront home. Warner owns a string of luxury hotels including the Four Seasons Hotel in New York, the Four Seasons Biltmore in Santa Barbara, the Kona Village Resort in Hawaii, Las Ventanas al Paraiso in Los Cabos, Mexico, and the San Ysidro Ranch in Montecito — properties that have hosted celebrity weddings and counted Rory McIlroy and Serena Williams among their guests.
Warner's story has not been without controversy. In 2014, he was sentenced to two years of probation and community service for tax evasion, after concealing $107 million in a secret Swiss bank account since the 1990s, and paid a $53 million fine. As of early 2026, his net worth sits at approximately $6.4 billion according to Forbes, making him one of the wealthiest people in the country.
From a $5 stuffed animal to a $40 million oceanfront estate — the Beanie Babies story is one of the most unlikely wealth creation stories of the last 30 years. Does the name Ty Warner make you think of childhood nostalgia, or just how much money one toy can actually make?

My wonderful ceramic tree forest!🎄It started with my Grandma’s tree and my Dad’s tree. A couple were purchased new, but most have been rescued from antique stores, thrift stores, yard sales, flea markets. I love this time of year so I can have them on display. ❤️
