Woodworking: How To Finish A Wood Ring

The first round of ring making over the last 24 hours didn’t go so well but I wasn’t gonna let that stop me from figuring this out.

The method that I used today worked out really well, but there was a bit of a learning curve. I ended up melting a microfiber towel to the ring from buffing it too vigorously while using my drill attachment at high speed. I sanded it back down, gave it another shot AND that always reminds me to find success you must first fail, in my case twice ✌️

Furniture should be made for the space it lives in.

At Oregon Handcraft, we build custom hardwood furniture around your dimensions, your vision, and the character of the wood itself.

From statement dining tables to one-of-a-kind pieces designed for your home, every project starts with an idea.

Have a piece in mind? Let’s talk about it.

If you’re reading this, it means we have the exact table pictured available and ready to ship.

We’re a very small furniture shop in Eugene, Oregon, trying to build something sustainable making pieces like this. Every sale matters to us. And if buying a $6,800 table isn’t exactly on your agenda today—which I completely understand—sharing this with someone who might love it costs nothing and genuinely helps us more than you probably realize.

This table was built from White Oak we harvested locally, air-dried for four years, and eventually turned into the piece you see here. There isn’t another one exactly like it.

$6,800 — available now.

84” × 38” × 29.5”
1.5” solid White Oak top
Handcrafted in Eugene, Oregon

Substantial without feeling visually heavy, each panel-style leg features carefully placed negative space that allows light through the base. The result is a sculptural silhouette that feels at home in organic modern, modern rustic, Scandinavian, and thoughtfully collected interiors.

When purchased, it will be carefully crated and shipped by freight. Please allow approximately 2–3 weeks for crating and freight pickup. Shipping generally runs $600–$1,000 depending on destination.

If someone came to mind while you were looking at these photos, please send this post to them. That share could literally lead to our next build.

Would you pay $8,000 for this slab table? Maybe I’m crazy, but before you answer let me tell you what went into this build!
