Good Afternoon! 🌞
I’m trying to get back into posting, and I really meant to do it yesterday, after the Palm Sunday service, but instead I was working. Later, I ran across a post in my neighborhood app which I commented on, and thought I’d share here, because I have dealt so much with downsizing homes when I was still physically staging homes.
Someone wrote a brilliant little piece about starting and restarting a craft project she had stashed away for several years. She asked others for their thoughts, because she was feeling badly about it.
Hopefully this might encourage someone:
“Beautiful—along with the message. 💜 What’s important is that you realized it was still important to you, and that you started it! 💜Often times we need to evaluate if it’s still relevant or important for that time in our life. If it’s not, let it go. Otherwise it keeps us stuck—both mentally, emotionally, and physically. For example piles of projects, papers, cars, and the list goes on. 🙂
I have found for myself and clients I’ve helped downsize their homes in the past, is to just “pick away” at it. Develop good or better habits. Just do 5, 10, 15 minutes a day or twice a day…but do it EVERY day. Eventually the brain gets rewired (neuroplacticity) , and then other tasks get easier too. Seriously. It’s like having a CBT session for free. 😉 (cognitive behavioral therapy)…or for me personally, I have to keep my sewing room under control. lol.
I make memory quilts, etc. so fabric and yarn accumulate. I literally just take one day every two weeks, and put it in my calendar as a “organize day.” Then I just put music on, make a cup of tea, ignore my diet and have one cookie or other treat, turn off my phone (the big one) , and just tidy up the place. I treat it like going to regular work, so it has to happen…
I usually “get into the zone,” as I refer to it…and it never fails to surprise me that I get it done in way less time than I expected! lol. Anyhoo, super happy that you got started, and let us know how your project progresses! 🙂 “
