I’m heartbroken and thankful at the same time.
A severe storm blew through around midnight last night. We thought it was a tornado; the house sounded like it was going to fly apart. It was still dark when I left for work this morning, so I couldn’t see if we had any damage. When I got home, I could tell the pumpkins were in bad shape. Tom tried to talk me out of going out to look, but I just had to know. I grabbed my trusty hoe for a walking stick and headed out.
So much hail damage. Some of the pumpkins have dents. The hail broke vines apart, and half the patch is sitting in ankle-deep water. I felt like crying… but instead I thanked God for keeping us safe and that our home has no damage (that we can see—insurance will look it over).
This is just a pumpkin patch. Yes, I love my pumpkins, but so many others have lost their homes to this crazy weather. So I just say Thank You, my Lord and Savior, that it’s only a pumpkin patch. I have no doubt God will take care of me.

The pumpkins need rain but they are still growing, they will begin vining out soon. I walked the patch tonight hoeing weeds and look at the baby pumpkin I found 🥰. I didn’t even know they had bloomed yet. What a great surprise!

The pumpkin patch is planted!
I’ve been so anxious because it keeps raining every other day.
With the help of our official tractor driver Mike Wood we were able to get the pumpkins planted before the rain today. I’m so thankful that he’s willing to help every year. Poor Mike gets to constantly hear me say “ok” when I want him to start and stop while we plant different varieties.

I’m also so grateful for my husband, without his help I wouldn’t be able to have the pumpkin patch. He does all the behind the scene work, spraying weeds then tilling several times to make sure the ground is just right for planting. Plus if you know me then you know I’m horrible with numbers. My husband determines how many rows in the planting sections. Trust me, without him the planting would not go smoothly.

I look forward to seeing you this fall for my 10th year raising the pumpkin patch. 🎃
