Unbelievable gold thread as fine as hair! Mind-blowing seen under a microscope. I've been restoring upholstered furniture for over 50 years and this is the most unusual find ever! A cluster of tattered threads that came up when I was washing 140-year-old, very dirty Spanish moss. I cannot imagine what the woven fabric looked like!

The latest finding in my Turkish chair restoration is truly fascinating! In this type of traditional upholstery work, it's common to find what we in the trade call "floor sweepings" in the stuffing materials. Small snips of fabric or trim materials that fall onto the floor, into the straw, moss, or hair, then swept back up in the mix. I've been washing and fluffing up original Spanish moss and came across a small cluster of colorful fibers with no definitive weave BUT in the mix is real gold thread! Seriously, it is as fine as hair! I've looked at it under a microscope and it is pretty unbelievable. I've heard of it but had yet to see it. More on the project coming soon!

In '83, I had 50 of these advertising Frisbees made. Some went to family and friends but I also drove to our local city parks and threw some out onto the lawn. Recently, I found this one hanging from my door k**b in a shopping sack, 43 years later. Hope to find out who it was. Some kid now an adult?

This rare Turkish chair arrived at my shop yesterday. With a couple other large projects to complete, this will be a winter task.

Look at this "fresh out of a barn" beauty! Many years of dirt haven't spoiled it. Love it!

Picked up my latest project today. I'll replace spring work in progress from another shop.
