The Sprog II interface with JMRI Decoder Pro works like a champ! I ditched the Digitrax PR4 after multiple attempts to get it to work.

While I am a Digitrax user for DCC system, block detection and signal control, I found the PS4 would not program Soundtrax Tsunami 2 decoders. I tried every thing including a PowerPax booster. I read about the Sprog interface, bought one and was up and running programming and operating a Tsunami 2 equipped Athearn locomotive in 5 minutes!

My other passion is flying RC Helicopters. I have several and I am an intermediate flyer working on 3D flying. I bought a Horizon Blade Fusion 180 heli just after Thanksgiving and flew it this spring. Out of the box the heli demonstrated excessive tail wag. Adjustment to the gyro and mechanical features did nothing to correct the problem. I thought perhaps it might be the gyro/receiver unit by Spektrum. I was right! Check out the video! I replaced the Spektrum unit with a programmable unit by iKON. The technician from Horizon said tail wag is normal! I disagree! iKON saved the day and my investment in the Fusion 180!

Watch as the consist led by Alco Century 636 PC #6315 navigates the reverse curve then around the layout to top the crest where the track was replaced to lower the vertical curve. The consist stays on the track! No derailment! See if you notice a change in the cargo on the train!

So after a lot of procrastination I finally tore out this section of track to lower the crest about 1.5 scale feet. The lead wheels of six axle locomotives would actually leave the track and derail unless going about 1 mph. After testing it and adjusting the switch point rails a bit all big locomotives including my N&W Y3b navigating through the crest and stayed on the rails! Success!

Installed another DIgitrax DS64 to control and see turnout status on my computer! It’s controlling 3 crossovers and a single RH turnout. Also the DS64 allows push button control which I have at each location! Bye bye DPDT switches!

Roof sections in place temporarily - I’ll go back and trim flash from each section for a tight fit. I’ll leave them loose for access to lighting, track cleaning and installing some detail and figures. Have to figure out scene and landscaping for behind the engine house. Any suggestions? Freight car and engine parts and debris? Freight car wheel sets? All of the above?

Fantasy: The construction crew has finally returned to build the masonry walls for the roundhouse! Reality: It’s nice to have a free moment to squeeze in some model railroading - building a Walthers Roundhouse kit! This plastic kit has exterior and interior wall panels that forms a sandwich for the window and glazing panels. Not a fast assembly with this kit - airbrushed all the wall panels and window frames with red exterior and black interior. Historic photos show light interiors, probably a light shop green color. I picked white to maximize reflected light. Now considering adding lighting.....stay tuned!
