Navajo-Churro sheep descended from Iberian Churra breeds brought to North America in the 1540s by Spanish colonizers. They were important sources of meat, fiber, and milk for early Spanish people and became the basis for a robust textile industry for both Hispanic and Native American peoples. A small number of Hispanic and Navajo fiber artists continue to use traditional weaving methods with Navajo-Churro wool.
