🍂 What’s Happening This Weekend at Timeworn Treasures Mercantile? 🍎

We’re hitting the road and enjoying a little bit of everything autumn has to offer!

Fall festivals, craft fairs, fresh apple c***r, c***r donuts, and all those beautiful colors Mother Nature is showing off along the way. 🍁

And of course, you know I can’t pass up a good tag sale! A few treasure-hunting stops are definitely on the agenda.

There’s just something about a New England fall weekend — the country roads, colorful foliage, little roadside stands, and the chance of finding something old and wonderful along the way.

Who knows what treasures I’ll come home with?

🌼 forgotten hardware to a bouquet of flowers 🌼

Last year I came across these pictures and immediately saved them. I loved the idea of taking old faucet and valve handles — rusty, chippy, mismatched and probably headed for the scrap pile — and turning them into flowers.

So, of course, I started keeping my eye out for valves whenever I was out picking. Little by little, I’ve been sourcing different sizes, shapes and colors with the idea of eventually creating my own bouquet.

That’s one of my favorite things about old pieces. Sometimes you don’t have to restore them or even use them for their original purpose. You just have to look at them a little differently.

The old valve handles become the flower heads, wire or metal rods can become the stems, and springs, bits of scrap metal or old utensils can be worked in for leaves and texture. Then gather them together in an old enamelware or metal pitcher, bottle, crock — whatever you happen to have.

I haven’t made mine yet, I’m still sourcing in the wild, but I think this may finally be the project for all those valves I’ve been collecting.

• Fun bulk “maker lots” — vintage wooden thread spools and bobbins, bingo balls, and other odds & ends perfect for crafting, decorating, and repurposing
• Freshly stocked shelves with new treasures and finds
• And a little CLEAR-IT-OUT sale! I’ll be bringing back some previously offered pieces at reduced prices to make room for new inventory

🍁Understated Autumn 🍂

Decorating for fall doesn’t have to mean changing everything in your home.

Sometimes it’s simply changing a white candle for an amber or warm brown one. Bringing in a few fallen leaves or pinecones from outdoors. Hollowing out a white pumpkin and filling it with soft cream or pale yellow flowers. Stacking a small pumpkin on a couple of old books. Or changing one pillow to a warmer, richer shade.

Use the things you already have and add just a little bit of the season.

A few simple touches can make your home feel like autumn without making it feel decorated for autumn.
